Customer Reviews
Wonderful!
Everyone should read this book... but for all those who have been entralled by Waltzing the Cat and Cowboys are my Weakness, then this is an absolute must. This book slides you through amusement, envy, sympathy and recognition. I started reading it and couldn't stop...
Don't waste your time reading any more reviews, just trust me - you'll love it!
perfect for the bathtime traveller
Pam Houston's work is a delicate balance of romanticism and wry humour. She sees, and communicates to the reader, the beauty and danger of the natural world, and the robustness and fragility of the human body and spirit. In this collection of essays, she explores and enriches a range of themes from the personalities of dogs to the politics of fat.
Even if your idea of recklessness is to run a too-hot bath, your most dangerous experience eating out-of-date yoghurt, Houston's need to be out in the world, meeting its challenges with acquired grace, will inspire you to get out of your chair and go for that walk. In a minute, as soon as you can bear to put her book down.
Honest and funny and thoughtful, as familiar and fresh as memory, this would be an ideal gift for a cherished friend, or for your next journey, even if it's in the comfort of your own home.
