Almost Full Marks for Lady B
Let me say first that I much enjoyed this book. How others will react will depend on what they regard as being of most importance. The use of English is curious in places, with sentences not always flowing smoothly. Also, there are quite a few proof errors, one of the most striking being the assertion that Sir John was born in 1988!! But it's clearly written from the heart, which for many will outweigh the technical/stylistic shortcomings. There's a lot of affection here, not just for Sir John but for many of those with whom he came into contact. There are plenty of photographs, helpfully captioned. The discography is fascinating and reminds us of the breadth of Sir John's repertoire. So, a good book, which might have been excellent with some obvious input from professional writer.
