Product Description

There are more unique crochet stitches than anyone can count--which is what makes this remarkable book so valuable for crocheters. Each of its sampler rugs introduces the reader to a variety of new stitches. One consists of 36 squares, all in yarn of the same color, yet each with its own distinctive stitch. Another is a tasseled circle made with 19 multicolored hexagons. Still more projects are based on a jacquard stitch; Tunisian crochet (also called tricot); and rochenit (sometimes known as "on the double" crochet). Making any one of them is an education in the art of crochet. Plus, the result is a spectacularly beautiful rug.

Editorial Reviews

Review
Look out for this informative and comprehensive book, Crochet Techniques. It is a valuable reference for any lover of crochet with a wide selection of stitch patterns and techniques. There are 36 linear stitch patterns and 19 in-the-round motifs that can be used for many different projects and ideas. The book presents them as morsels that can then be combined to create rugs and throws as a decorative reference that can inspire you again and again. The book then progresses to colour work where 30 squares are charted as colourful patterns that can all be extended and worked in any shade you like. Carrying on further than many other crochet books, Renate then shoes how to work another 36 patterns in Tunisian crochet and 30 ways with crochenit, a derivative of Tunisian crochet. As well as being an extensive collection of patterns for an avid crocheter, the book is also an excellent primer for anyone who is new to crochet. The basics of the techniques are thoroughly and clearly explained in down to earth language and excellent diagrams and is an excellent source. --Knit Today, July 08

A beautiful addition to your crochet library.5
This is a lovely book. There are many crochet how-to books aimed at the beginner but there is less choice when you want something that will take you beyond the basics. I'd recommend this book to any intermediate or advanced crochet addicts, who are looking for something beyond the granny square variations that many books outline. Looking through the samples I've discovered so many new stitches and combinations (using regular crochet and tunisian crochet) that I have not seen in any other book and the two-tone rugs that you can create with these techniques look fabulous. Each pattern has the usual instructions, and also has a stitch diagram for those that prefer to follow patterns that way.
There are five rugs/afghans to make, three using regular crochet, and the other two using tunisian crochet techniques. Each rug being made up of several squares - each one teaching you a new pattern.

The vast majority of the stitches and samples in this book have a very contemporary slant bringing crochet right into the 21st century where it belongs! I love crochet, and I do knit too, but I hate the way that crochet always seems the poor relation with dated and dowdy patterns. Well no more. The bottom right of the book cover shows a fantastic blanket that can be produced by following a colour chart and using just single crochet (or doublecrochet if you favour the UK terminology).
The other thing I love about this book is that all the way through it gives the UK and US terminology for the stitches. Most people have a preference and this book saves you from doing the translation in your head all the time!
I was a bit apprehensive about the price of this book but I think it is worth every penny.
There are patterns in here that beginners can do, although I do think that if you have a bit more experience with the crochet hook then you will appreciate this book all the more!
