Unique flavours, elegant presentation and light healthy food served in a manner that is fresh and interesting are just some of the features of Japanese cooking. This collection contains all the favourites: soups, sashimi, sushi, rice and noodles, the famous one-pot dishes such as sukiyaki and tempura, yakitori and teppanyaki. There are also chapters devoted to vegetables, salads, tofu, desserts, pickles and garnishes. Also included is nutritional information, hints and tips - including a guide to etiquette - an illustrated glossary and menu-planning ideas. Each recipe includes a photograph, simple instructions, and has been triple-tested by The Australian Women's Weekly Test Kitchen to ensure success.

Not the best Japanese cookbook on the market.
Beautifully illustrated and clearly explained, as we have come to expect of the Australian's Women's weekly series. My only beef is that the recipe line-up is far from inspiring. If you want to learn how to make a range of sushi and sashimi, this is probably for you. I was hoping for lots of yummy rice, noodle and stir-fry dishes, but there are fewer of these than I would have liked ... and no desserts. Having said that, it has a very helpful, illustrated glossary. Still, this book adds little if anything to the chapter on Japanese cooking in Asian Food (by Charmaine Solomon), which remains the best pan-Asian all-rounder, in my view.
