Editorial Reviews

RC Universe
The information in the book is current and accurate. The book contains a wealth of information for a first time or potential helicopter owner; the strange words we often throw around at the field and in the forums are indexed in a glossary in the back of the book.

The length of the book is around 40 pages and the only complaint I could find is that it's not long enough! Oh, and we Americans could use some of the English humor translated in the glossary as well (what is the BMFA??).

From the Publisher
This book is a must for anyone wanting to find out more about R/C Model Helicopters. It is written in a very easy-to-follow style and covers everything the beginner needs to know to get started. "If you can make a pot of tea without scalding yourself...you'll cope just fine," says Malcolm reassuringly.

From the Back Cover
This concise booklet guides the beginner through every aspect of getting started in building, maintaining and flying radio controlled model helicopters. It describes how what and where, and even why.

It is borne of the firsthand experiences of the author, who was a complete beginner in model helicopter flying so recently that the memories remain fresh and real. He now flies regulary in national F3C sportsman's competition.

His passion for model helicopters sprang into life the very first time he flew one, and has only intensified during the five years or so that have elapsed since that day. Those who read this booklet run the risk of becoming infected with the same passionate enthusiasm.

Written in an approachable and light-hearted style, it starts right at the beginning and assumes no prior knowledge. it guides the beginner through every stage, discussing the pros and cons of kits, second-hand models, components and tools, and even the benefits of learning to fly with a simulator on a computer before risking a real model in the air.

Electric power is covered as well as internal combustion engines.

A logical procedure for building models and installing components of the radio is covered in depth.

A safe method for learning to fly is clearly spelled out step-by-step, as well as potential hazards.

This book is intended to add to, rather than to replace entirely the guidance and advice that is often offered by experienced model helicopter pilots. Nonetheless, beginners who cannot find any such help will be able to get started with the advice offered here.
