The Lady, 24/10/2006
"...just the projects to help you create a sparkle this
Christmas."

From the Inside Flap
Romance is back! This great collection of designs has been put
together by Jennie Atkinson, with the help of other designers from the
Rowan stable. Between them they give knitters a chance to create a little
magic with their needles (and crochet hooks). In a delicious sugar-almond
colour palette, the collection is divided into three chapters.

Out and About offers some elegant knits, including a fabulous feminine
dress, a smart beaded jacket and cape, a sweet lace blouse and camisole,
and a sophisticated beaded shrug.

Home Comforts gives you the opportunity to knit a real 30s revival lacy
dressing gown and matching bed jacket, cosy socks, a soft textured throw,
pretty buttoned bolster and cushion covers, two must-have lacy hanger
covers.

Little Extras shows off easy and stylish crochet accessories - a beaded
choker, necklace and belt, a little skull cap, and an exquisitely soft
gossamer afghan style shawl. There is also a pretty knitted bag with
crochet motifs and another liberally decorated with beads and buttons.

book double4
This book's knitting patterns are just gorgeous and even though I haven't knitted anything yet due to several other projects that are desperate to get finished I am sure I will. The patterns are lovely and far from the usual boring jumper. It's surely not a book for beginners but I can do with a challenge for once.
The only thing that really annoyed me was that this is exactly the same book as "Romantic Style: Knits and Crochet to Wear or Display" from Jennie Atkinson. Apart from the cover it is word for word and picture for picture identical. I do know because I purchased both books first. If you intend to buy this book, go for the cheaper one.
A very worthy book! At least I think so!

A feast for the eyes and the needles5
As a fairly new knitter I was a little daunted by this book at first, but having completed one item (a bag decorated with buttons) and used the pattern from the beaded shrug to make a more straightforward rectangular shawl, I've found it both clear and inspirational.

There are some simple, pretty patterns for bags and tops, some beautiful lace pieces and a gorgeous dressing gown that I can only dream of ever having the time and skill to knit....

Overall something to go to when you want something a little bit special. Highly recommended.
