Customer Reviews
VERY NICE
This is a beautiful book and very encouraging and inspiring, but at times some of it was not what I would term "Vintage" - each to their own of course, beauty being in the eye of the beholder, but the white attic room screamed "IKEA" at me rather than "Vintage" but that was really my only complaint.
The book is beautiful, the photography and the rooms stunning.
Never mind the quality...
This is the naffest soft furnishing book I have ever encountered, and I've read a few as I also teach the subject. This is a 'how not to' book as far as the quality of the results are concerned; I would be ashamed to show anyone workmanship like the wonky scalloped shelf trim with its badly finished bias binding, let alone photograph it, publish it and charge people to look at it. Anyone with the most basic knowledge of sewing could look at the pictures and work out how to make the items shown, without the incredibly obvious instructions. This is style without content, the sort of thing that gets crafts a bad name, that equates hand-made with badly-made. Don't go there!
Simple projects and easy to follow
I recommend this book for the beginner. This is a great book with many simple ideas to follow. The instructions are great with simple instructions and good pictures. My favorite so far is the summer skirt..again a simple project with a stunning result...that can be done on one day. If you are looking for advance projects this book may not be for you, but someone getting interested in country crafts, sewing and textiles will suit them best. There are some clever ideas like the fabric covered basket and the child play tent that should interest you.
