Customer Reviews

Simply incredible5
For any artist, this CD would be amazing in itself. Chris Thile's (prn. TEE-LEE) musicianship and talent is off the scale, with him churning out licks and solos with creativity and impact, mixing his unique mandolin skills with catchy and memorable tunes. If you then add the fact that Chris, when he made this album, was just 16 years old, it starts to become clear that he is no ordinary musician.

Finally, throw into the pot the fact that Chris wrote ALL of the tunes here himself. You then see that Chris is not only an astonishingly gifted young mandolin player, but he is also an incredible composer. Songs such as the title track 'Stealing Second' show off the talent that Chris (and the other musicians on the album - including Alison Brown, Jerry Douglas, Stuart Duncan...) have by opening the afterburner for some red hot picking, whilst others such as 'Leaves Fall' surround you with Chris' intricate picking.

To be this good at this age is a very rare thing indeed. You have to hear it to believe it, and once you've done that just sit back and enjoy the music for being... well, good music. The variety here is good, and you'll keep returning again and again to these songs, probably because you can't get a melody out of your mind. Get this album now.
