A Timeless Classic
This game is one of the all time greats made by the people at Sony, the idea of this game is to ride around the backstreets commit crimes to get cash (and points) without getting "Busted" or "Wasted". Due to the immense popularity of this game a sequel, fittingly named GTA2 hit the streets, the 1st edition is essential to play the 2nd. This game involves stealing nice motors in order to avoid the cops. You will find you spend most of your time completing missions for cash. This involves relatively simple gameplay and the control of your character is also very easy. Unfortunaely the only flaw with this game, is that you can't progress anywhere, the whole game is based around the same city, but the city is very large and believe me even though it is only one level you won't find yourself bored with this timeless classic that I keep going back to. Much better than the spin-offs.
a very good game at a very good price
when i first got this game on the pc, i thought it was one of the best games i had played in a long time. it had everything a young adult wanted: mob killings, drug traffiking, hold-ups, hijacking, hit and run, and of course murder one. unfortunately, i had to sell my pc, so i got grand theft auto for the playstation. i found that it had lost nothing from the transition from the pc to the playstation. it still had the mob killings, hit & run and murder one, but it still kept it's amazing musical score, including the amazing "Grand Theft Auto". not only this, but it has an amazing range of cars that you can steal, which is basically the point of the game: the bulldog, the penetrator, the tanker and the amazing tank, complete with firing turret! the basic story of the game is this. you start as a lowly street punk, stealing cars to make some cash. as you progress the HUGE levels, you climb through the ranks of organised crime, making friends in high places. although the game is free range, there are missions which you can undertake by visiting the various payphones scattered around the cities. these missions range from being a getaway driver to hijacking a fuel tanker, fitting a bomb to it and parking it outside the headquarters of a rival gang. the only trouble is that it does suffer from slow-down if you are doing too mqany things at once. for example if you are tailing a car with a four cop rating. but this minor imperfection aside, this still remains a classic... My advice is simple: BUY THIS NOW, KAPISH?!
Great!
I bought GTA for my PSOne simply because everyone I knew who had a PSOne owned this game. It wasn't my first choice of type of game but I found it cheap and bought it. The first few times I played it I didnt really like it and put it to the back of the pile of games I have. Then on a weekend away I gave it another chance and really it took up my weekend. I got use to the controls and began to enjoy the game. However if running down pedestrians and on the run from police is enjoyment then this game is for you. It is slightly dated now and I am sure the newer versions are much more detailed and better but this is a great start to GTA and very addictive. Just missed out on getting a 5 star rating as it didn't monopolise my time as much as Championship Manager on the PC does. Find it, BUY it!
