With the No Limit and Cash Money crews having permanently seared the once-ignored Deep South into the hip-hop map, Nelly arrives to make a mark for the heretofore uncelebrated St Louis scene. After outlining the rules of the game from lifestyle (gats, grass and sex) to wardrobe (he cuffs his jeans like Beaver Cleaver), the rapper offers scenario after scenario depicting the gangsta world as one big party; he and his crew seem much more interested in fellatio than shoot-outs. The title single is the clear standout with its low-rider groove, but the midtempo R&B-flavoured flows of "Utha Side", "Greed, Hate & Envy", and "Steal Da Show" are also seductive. --Rickey Wright

Nelly: The best album ever made!
Of all the albums I own - this one has to be my favourite. All the songs are excellent with a good rhythm and vibe. Nelly is just telling it like it is - and this reflects in the lyrics in all his songs. He is trying to get St Louis recognised, and with an album as good as this he shouldn't have any problem. I find this album easier to listen to than other rap/hip hop CDs - and every track is individual. My personal favourite is E.I - but all the rest are just as good. infact it was hard to choose just one favourite. So if you want to listen to some decent music - choose this album!

Great to chill out to!
I've read the reviews from people who really like nelly, and some people who don't - i think as long as you don't take this too seriously you'll love it. i bought this album as a result of loving country grammar, e.i, ride wit me and batter up, and as i'm listening to it now, i'm not disappointed!! it's got a great rhythm throughout and it's a perfect album for chillin out. buy it!!!

Simply Superb
Nelly is a rapper from St. Louis. A rarity. Along with the rest of the St. Lunatics he has brought St. Louis out of the shadows and into a very bright spotlight. This album is a mix of homegrown talent mixed with old skool jazz and hiphop. It follows the same pattern as a lot of American rappers - girls, drugs & cars (sex, drugs & rock'n'roll) - but gives it an upbeat, soulful sound. And Nelly also brings with him an energetic performance which never fails to please his millions of fans. "Country Grammar" (single) takes the melodic beat from the children's song 'Down, down, baby...' and added his own country rap style to it. "St. Louie" is an ode to his hometown - St. Louis. "E.I." which basically means 'Bring It On' is almost a challenge being thrown down to other rappers, as if to say that he knows they can't keep up. He also teams up with some other not-so-well-known artists on his debut album. "For My", a song dedicated to all of his supporters, features Lil Wayne of the Hot Boys. And "Never Let 'Em See You Sweat" features the New York-based duo The Teamsters. He is also joined by his fellow St. Lunatics on "Steal The Show" and "Batter Up." All-in-all this album brings a refreshing taste of american 'Country Grammer' to the world of Hip-Hop!
