Editorial Reviews
CD Description
A 15-track distillation of a quarter-century's worth of June Tabor's solo albums, THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION might seem a bit skimpy to longtime fans, all of whom could fill at least a couple of discs with Tabor classics. However, as much as one can cavil about what's been left out, it's impossible to quibble with the track listing itself. Obviously, the compilation is geared towards traditional songs--Tabor is the finest singer of traditional British folk songs this side of Norma Waterson--but it also includes Tabor's takes on songs by contemporaries like Peter Bellamy ("The Leaves in the Woodland") and Mike Waterson ("The Scarecrow"), as well as one recording with her Silly Sisters partner Maddy Prior, the witty "The Barring of the Door". Well chosen and excellently sequenced, THE DEFINITIVE COLLECTION is an excellent startingpoint for the curious. (For further investigation into Tabor's work, AIRS & GRACES is highly recommended.)
Customer Reviews
Good in parts but...
Bought based on reviews, but it's a bit too olde England folk style for me. Sounded good for half the Cd, then began to get a bit wearing.
