Product Description

A definitive record of one of the greatest bands in indie rock, The Electrifying Conclusion is a chronicle of the last four hours of Guided By Voices. The film captures Guided By Voices' final concert at Chicago's Metro on New Year's Eve 2004 - sixty-three songs - completely uncut. Excitement and nostalgia emanating from both the band and audience throughout the memorable evening are powerfully captured here in fantastic performances of both standard GBV tunes and special, seldom-played classics.

The Players: Robert Pollard - vocals, Doug Gillard - guitar/vocals, Nate Farley - guitar/vocals, Chris Slusarenko - bass, Kevin March – drums. With Special Guests: Beatle Bob (MC, dancing), Trader Vic (friend, bartender), Jim Pollard (brother, vocals), Tobin Sprout (former member, vocals, guitar), Greg Demos (former member, bass), Jim MacPherson (former member, drums), Don Thrasher (former member, drums), Jim Greer (former member, former Spin editor, bass), Matt Sweeney (former member, Chavez/Zwan, bass), Jon Wurster (friend, Superchunk, drums)

The Electrifying Conclusion is a four hour rockathon of one of the best, and sadly under-exposed bands of recent times. This was their final gig ever, recorded for posterity and features tracks and ex-members from the bands considerable life-span.

For anyone unaware of Guided By Voices, this would be as good a place to start as any. Although it features the latter-day line up, which in some people's eyes doesn't match up to the wobbly, home recorded original band, this is a good overview of the band's career. Singer and mainstay Robert Pollard is like the bastard son of Roger Daltrey, John Lennon and Peter Gabriel fronting a stadium band who lost their way to Madison Square Garden. Early GBV albums sounded epic and grand and were such a triumph of ambition and imagination despite being recorded in the band's basement on common or garden, domestic quality recording. Imagine Quadrophenia being recorded in someone's back bedroom and your getting warmer. Later albums were more proffesionally recorded and more polished. Although fated by many, the band only enjoyed moderate success.

Anyone who is a fan of cult-ish rock that takes in pop, psych, punk and prog (the four P's) will more and likely fall under the spell of this wonderful band. This is great (and good value at 4hrs+ of video) to start. For existing fans - what are you waiting for? Buy it!
