Synopsis
The incomparable Audrey Hepburn stars alongside Anthony Perkins in this romantic adventure. Set in the South American jungle, the film sees a young man seek refuge in the mountains and forests following the murder of his father. Therein he meets a young nature-dwelling woman known to the local tribesmen as 'bird-girl', and finds himself falling in love. Based on the acclaimed novel by William H Hudson.

It's in CINEMASCOPE - When Will the DVD Distributors Get It Right?
For all of those who might be vaguely interested, 'Green Mansions' IS an anamorphic widescreen (CinemaScope) release and NOT 4x3 full screen as indicated on the DVD box. I guess you can't blame Amazon for not showing the original ratio on their webpage if the distributor can't get it right in the first instance. By not stating the correct ratio format many movie enthusiasts worldwide will NOT purchase a widescreen movie if it's released in 4x3 full screen or pan and scan?
Having been in DVD sales and promotion since 1997, I see this complete disregard for the consumer day in and day out, not only on Amazon, but on other sites as well. Don't they realize that they are losing money -and in the financial crisis that the world is enduring at the moment- one would think they would do everything in their power to sell more of their product.
The transfer of 'Green Mansions' is very, very clean and sharp and the color saturation is good also. Oh by the way, it's a very worthwhile and entertaining movie as well, and has been one of my 'must have' Audrey Hepburn/Tony Perkins movies for a long time. I was at first hesitant to buy it as I didn't have a clue whether it would be in its original ratio or not, so I took a punt and it turned out better than I expected.
Congratulations to Digital Classics for their acquisition of this long lost MGM movie (WB Library). But please Digital Classics, for any future CinemaScope movies that are anamorphic (16x9), please make sure you make that information available and believe me, you will sell more product.
At last Green Mansions on DVD
Green Mansions [DVD] [1959]
This movie was not a success at the box office but I think any movie with Audrey Hepburn can't be bad. It's like a movie directed by Steven Spielberg, even his bad movies are good and worth watching. Audrey is such a very good actress and one of the most beautiful women of all time. Her voice is charming like anything else with that woman. Only one important feature is missing, it has no subtitle in any language. There are a lot of Audrey's fans who are not English speaking and would like to enjoy that movie.
