Review
Under [Janson's] selfless, inspired direction, the Concertgebouw convince you there's one way to play these works. This is it. Their fabled sound, pure, rich and unfussy, gives crystal clarity to the dense scoring. Tempi are brisk but ideal, as the busy, lilting scherzo of No 3 or the hunting horn opening of No 4 show. hmmm bit tepid
Some of the best concerts I have attended have been with Jansons and the RCO. However on record many of the performances, while stunningly played and recorded, often lack fire. Unforunately this is one of them, a 6/10 for excitement, and 10/10 for playing/sound.
