CD Description
On CRYSTAL PLANET Satch provides his fans with exactly whatthey've come to expect: crunching riffs, soaring melodies, chord changes and solos from heaven. He deviates little fromsuch past releases as THE EXTREMIST and SURFING WITH THE ALIEN, and as the saying goes: "if it ain't broke". That's notto say he doesn't stay contemporary, as "Raspberry Jam Delta-V" effectively dabbles in electronica as subtle backgroundnoise.
"Love Thing" is a beautiful ballad and potential single, and Satch is able to make the guitar "talk". There are also elements of funk ("A Piece Of Liquid") and metal ("With Jupiter In Mind"). But his skills shine through the mostwhen he shreds, and nobody does it better. Quite simply, the man is a virtuoso and probably one of the most influentialInstrumental Rock artists of his generation. He shows he can play at the speed of light while fitting all these speedy solos into the context of the song. CRYSTAL PLANET continuesthe legacy of a man who shows that no matter how much technology advances, there is no substitute for a wailin' guitar.

Plank-spanking widdler? Think again...5
O.K, Satriani is an established 'shredder'. He can play a zillion notes per second, taps, dive-bombs, trills and sweeps. So can about 1001 guitarists. So why is he one of the most emulated and revered rock guitarists out there?

This album is one very good reason why!

Many guitarists, particularly the more obnoxious ones, seem to release music which is nothing more than an excuse to perform the equivalent of 'Guitar Karaoke' all over a backing track. Technically brilliant, but overall, fairly dull to listen to (unless you're the guitarist in question). The difference here is the music. Many 'widdlemeisters' (Guitarists who have amazing speed and technique, and are not afraid to demonstrate this at every opportunity) record tracks which ultimately separate the lead guitar from the rest of the song (presumably to focus attention on the guitar because the rest of the song is fairly basic, or pretty lame). With Crystal Planets, the production team have done their homework, and EVERYTHING works well. The songs sound original and interesting, and the lead playing complements this. The flashy guitar acrobatics are there, but there's a lot more class than your typical shred album. This isn't just a rock guitarist's album. This is one for music lovers in general!

The best Satch album of the lot5
One of the first Satriani albums I listened to, Crystal Planet got mehooked instantly and, over 140 songs later, it's still probably myfavourite.
This is just so full of great melodies and songs that really stick in yourhead. Satch manages to create a huge amount of emotion without evenmoving his lips in showcase tracks like "Love Thing", "Ceremony", "A TrainOf Angels" and "Up In The Sky".
From the minute you hit play on your CD player, you're thrust into Joe'sfast-moving world of instrumental guitar that isn't insane in the wayYngwie Malmsteen plays an insane amount of notes per second, but it isinsane in the way that when you've finished listening, you wonder whyother musicians actually have to move their lips to put a pointacross!
Instrumental guitar fans--you NEED this. Satriani fans--you HAVE this. Everyone else--you will LOVE this.

Who needs vocals when you got Satch on guitar??5
Joe Satriani has really outdone himself with this latest offering, each song being completely unique and different, 'Crystal Planet' will appeal to anyone. The top tracks on this album have to be 'Crystal Planet', opener 'Up In The Sky', 'Ceremony'. 'Lights In Heaven' and one of the most amazing tracks I have ever heard, 'Secret Prayer'. Probably the greatest guitarist in the world, this album does not disappoint. Whatever music you like, this album is a very wise purchase.
