Editorial Reviews

CD Description
For the two-disc LIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO, Joe Satriani takes a career-spanning tour of a back catalogue dating back to his full-length 1986 debut NOT OF THIS EARTH. Aided and abetted by a trio of longtime supporting musicians led by fellow virtuoso and bassist extraordinaire Stu Hamm, Satch soars on longtime favourites like the furiously intense "One Big Rush", ludicrously speedy "Surfing With The Alien", and swaggering neo-funk of "Satch Boogie". Belying a reputation for fleet-fingered histrionics, Satriani uses this live outing to trade in some speed for a degree of tonal and stylistic nuance. Among the best examples are the heartfelt "Until We Say Goodbye" with its wealth of crying guitar and pathos-laced phrasing, the quasi-waltz that is "Always With Me, Always With You", and delicate closer "Rubina", peppered with sweet chords and swirling synths.
Hamm's contributions are equally worthy, whether the pair of solos he tosses into the midst of the relentless "Raspberry Jam" or the poignant "Bass Solo"with its clever quote of Beethoven's "Moonlight Sonata". Although the lengthy set occasionally borders on the fringes of sameness, the twists and turns of Satch's dazzling fretboard heroics serve as an effective stimulant.

Customer Reviews

Awesome, just awesome5
There's no point describing just how good Satriani is as anyone looking at buying this CD already knows. Suffice to say that this live disc goes further to emphasise his status as one of the true legends of the guitar.

The track listing is superb ( I believe he compiled the live setlist from requests sent in to his website ) and just about every Satriani track you could ever want to hear live is played in this set.

This CD is so good I hate to think what the DVD is going to be like.........being a bit of a guitarist myself I think I may aswell chop my arms off now.

Just buy it and enjoy.

Joe at his best....100% LIVE....Totally Awesome!!!5
From the intro until the last notes of Rubina, Live in San Francisco is the ultimate live Joe Satriani experience (apart from actually seeing the guy play live in the flesh). This long awaited album takes the listener through a complete Joe Satriani live set from his Year 2000 "Engines Of Creation" tour along with a legendary bass solo from none other than Stuart Hamm. Its too hard to give a detailed explanation of how good this album is.....you just have to buy it...NOW!!!. When I listened to it the very first time I got goosebumps all over my body, because it took me back to when I saw Joe live in May 2000. The improvisation on some of the older material is simply spectacular. The new intro to "Summer Song" is one of the new highlights for fans familiar with live Satch. The Engines of Creation stuff is better live than on the album versions, cause theres a live band performing rather than samplers and keyboards. My favourite tracks are "Until We Say Goodbye", "Mystical Potatoe Head...", "Borg Sex" and "Rasberry Jam Delta-V", in fact every song the guy plays is simply brilliant. As I've already said...the whole album is awesome..JUST GO OUT AND BUY IT....NOW!!!!!!!

Best Live Guitarist -and it shows.5
A double CD: CD1 75mins, CD2 72mins.

25 superbly crafted guitar songs, mainly instrumental. Excellent live performances of many songs from all his studio albums. The live element eliminates the processed feel of his studio albums, putting guitar melodies and riffs first, free from synthesised drums etc.

Joe (vocals, guitar, harmonica) performs with bassist Stu Hamm, drummer Jeff Campitelli and Eric Caudieux on keyboards/rhythym guitar. These guys compare with The Jimi Hendrix Experience.

An ecclectic mix of songs: rock, fusion, ballads, all in Joe's unique style, with Stu Hamm giving us some Beethoven in his Bass Solo!

I rate this album way above any of his studio albums.
A must for guitar fans and all musicians.
