Customer Reviews
It was at Milton Keynes Bowl...
There I was sat on the grass on a beautiful summers day, having a few beers, some overpriced food and a generally good time when the announcemet came over the PA that Thunder were the next band up. I didn't get up but noticed that a lot of people did and then I realised why. This band were good! I'd heard of them of course and seen a few t-shirts, but never really listened or bothered...until then...They were so good live that day that a week later I bought this album. Since then I haven't stopped playing it and let me tell you why. It's fantastic!
The tracks are fresh and crisp, the lyrics are good enough to move it above the usual thrash band dirge and the quality of the musicianship is obvious. I love the accoustic numbers which are just that little bit different and only ever grow on you. By contrast the opening track is a pumping, good solid rock tune and gets you in the mood for more...and trust me, you won't be disappointed. These guys clearly have some pedigree and it shows! I've been in love with good rock music all my life - I went to Purple gigs in the early 70's I'm so old - so I don't know how I've missed this band but one thing's for sure; this will definitely not be the last Thunder album I buy.
If, like me, you've never heard them before, go out and buy this album. If you already love them you're probably saying "I told you so"
Not Bad But Not Great
Unlike a lot of Rock Bands Thunder have never made a bad album to date. However The Thrill of It All is the weakest in the Thunder catalogue. The reason for this is there just isnt enough killer tracks on the album that stand out for some reason. Welcome To The Party is a good track and is a typical Thunder track. The 2 singles that were released off the album Love Worth Dying For & Don't Wait Up are ok but other than that there is not a lot else. The tracks on the bonus disc are pretty weak too. It's understandable why they didnt make the album. I am not saying it's a bad album by any means but it just isnt a very good one by Thunder's high standards. For Thunder fans only this one.
My fave thunder studio album!
I got this for my birthday and i have to say that i love it! It's a cracking album and the second disc is great too!! Harry james co-writes a lot of the songs here and this is certainly obvious when you here the powerful drum beats. Luke morley is a great bass player, and yes he's a mint guitarist too. I was shocked to see him as the bassist but he does a really good job! From disc 1 i would say that i love every track apart from love worth dying for and you cant live your life in a day. I like them but one's a slow ballad and the other is a slightly bluesy affair.
From disc 2 my fave's are histrute (i think) boogie and somebody to love (not the queen song). Stl is a really strong song which, much like too bad and leathel combination should have been on the album. Hb is just the biggest muck around ive heard as a song! Its a story about a woman who walks like a gorilla and does dodgey things. It's weird but totally funny!!! This album was certainly the cd of my summer and i love it!!! Get it, you will too!!!
