Disappointing
I loved the last Gumball DVD but this one is a real disappointment. It is more like a "travelogue" with lots of scenery shots and filler - not nearly enough supercars being thrashed. The extras are very poor and we get to see very little of the celebs who took part. The only highlights are the Viper crash and the guy saying "They'll put us in jail - let me out!" when his mate tries to outrun the police at 150mph+.
There was a Gumball program on Men & Motors that covered the event properly - this is nowhere near that quality. You can watch the whole thing and the extras in an hour and a half. If you want to see a good Gumball DVD get last year's one and forget about this.
These reviews are very accurate
Being a fan of the Gumball, i was excited to see the latest DVD hit the shops. Like the other reviewers, i was disappointed with the results. As mentioned previously, it lacks the ingredients which made the 2003 DVD fun to watch (characters, insane driving, excitement). The extras are a joke - what is the point of the Gumball(fast)?????, and the one piece of footage i was looking forward to seeing (Kim Schmitz driving over Cannes promenade) wasnt there. It seems there was so much footage which could have been used alternatively to make it better. There is a lack of 'character' - we see a North African man called Momo say things like "i'm not a competitor" and "i dont like driving fast". Why include this on an endurance rally famous for the 'balls-to-the-wall' driving of supercars? For people who dont know of the Gumball, this probably isnt your best introduction. For people who do, dont expect fireworks. This could have been so much more.
Stroke of genius or cheap flop.
Let me start by saying I am a huge fan and loved the first movie/doc with great scenery, decent footage of the cars and Burt Reynolds narration adding serious cred.(cuban bros. nearly ruined it though)
6 Days in May is just not worth any money though its just a rehash of the home video quality series that was on digital tv. The makers follow some skateboarder who is a nice guy but nobody over the age of 15 in the UK should know who he is. All we see for most of the film is their not so handy-cam footage of the inside of the cabin of their X5. We also meet The Bentley Boys who if they were propper toffs would have a decent Bentley, again very boring viewing for car fans. Also featured is a German guy we saw on tv who I cant describe if I want this review to be accepted on this website.
Overall this movie features very little of the selection of cars that were obviously taking part in this prestigious rally and it is plainly obvious that none of the 'cool' or 'beautiful people' featured in the last movie are interested in the cameras this time 'round though they did take part. What we are left with is a bunch of morons, some high speed action and disapointingly for car nuts no super car sound effects.
It is infact possible that this vid could be a clever ploy by Gumball organisers to stem some of the massive interest the Rally generates, apparently they get thousands of mails a week from joe soaps which must waist a lot of their time. This must be the explaination for how Ruben Fleischer has done the impossible with his film, making the Gumball 3000 look boring!
