Synopsis
Often it is the small details that make a piece shine - similar to the way that unique buttons on a white shirt can give it an entirely new look. This book explores 1,000 of the embellishments available to graphic designers across all kinds of projects, from books to brochures, invitations to menus, CDs to annual reports. Exacting photography focuses in detail on the different options, and the reader is invited literally to shop for ideas. Content is organized by type of embellishment, ie: a designer searching for an unusual binding would find a wide collection of fresh ideas in the binding section. Other topics covered include fasteners, graphics, unique materials, embossing, debossing, speciality inks, type treatments, interesting colour usage, add-ons, die-cuts and much more.
Customer Reviews
The ideal book
This book is a necessity for graphic design projects. this has made a huge impact on my research and has really opened my eyes on what other methods can be used in graphic design.I would recommend this to anyone else doing graphic design, especially students
Excellent !
Excellent !!! a well thought out book for designers needing a spot of inspiration!
Very useful
This is a really interesting reference book for any print designer to get inspiration from. As a print designer you would be familiar with many of the techniques but it is interesting to see variations of what you know and see them used on a myriad of different projects. There are several examples which I have not seen before with binding/finishes which I hope to use one day. It shows contempory work rather than lots of books which drag out old projects which as an avid book buyer I'v seen loads of times before.
The index lists stock and materials used for each project which is very good.
My only complains are that the pictures are not overly big. As some of the detail is small it would be nicer to have images larger (I sound like a client eh?)... perhaps multiple images of some jobs. Also, it would have been very interesting to have web addresses provided in the index to see further work by some of the excellent companies featured.
All in all, if you love print/finishes/unusual finishes then you will LOVE this book
