Product Description

Curly girls of the world unite! Sixty-five percent of women have naturally curly hair, but for too long too many of these women have either been at a loss on how to care for their hair properly or, worse, have gone through life pretending they have straight hair. No more. Curls are definitely in - "Curl Up!" says Mademoiselle - and Lorraine Massey, a professional hairstylist and passionate proponent of curly hair, celebrates the curly girl way of life, from hair care to carefree attitude. Beginning with The Curly Girl's Twelve-Step Programme (Step Three: I will accept that the scalp and hair are two different entities with completely different needs, and I will treat them accordingly) CURLY GIRL is an illustrated how-to, support group and tongue-in-cheek manifesto all in one. There are tips on shampoo (never daily), conditioners (use lots), drying, combing (only when wet and well-conditioned), styling, getting the right cut and how to Heal Thy Hair after years of strong detergents and damaging blowdryers. There are before-and-after photographs, Curly Cues, self-help tests, confessions from curly girls, advice to take to your stylist. And for girls seeking their inner curl, compassion and encouragement to let their hair break free - and to put the fear of frizz behind them. Because from now on there's no such thing as a bad hair day.

A MUST for curlies4
From reading this book, I now know that I was a wavy girl who, in failing to deal with the wave, cut my thick wavy hair very short for 20 years. Deciding to grow my hair at the age of 32, I didn't know what to do with the thick wiry mass that appeared. I bought endless expensive products to solve the 'problem'. However, this book has changed all that, and I now realise that the products, not my hair, were the problem! Demand that your hairdresser cuts your hair dry. Avoid sulphates and silicones in hair products, 'wash' with a tiny amount of very cheap conditioner (infrequently), comb with fingers only, turn your head upside down and apply a light, clear, silicone free gel, and watch your hair become manageable, soft and curly! It works! It may be obvious advice for some readers, but it wasn't obvious for me, and it has saved me pounds in my pocket and hours of my life! Four stars because the only thing I dislike about the book is that it is bulked up with 'tongue in cheek' confessions from 'curly girls'. I loathe this confessional sort of thing, would prefer to be a 'curly woman', but realise that I'm probably too old, grey and curly to appreciate curly humour...

Up with Curl Power!5
Being a curly girl myself, this book was a life saver. My earliest memories contain scenes of my mother setting my hair in large rollers to make it straighter and more manageable. I have never known how to care for curly hair - instead I have spent decades bullying my hair into submission via hairdryers, rollers and irons.

This book gave me the answers for maintaining, trimming and hairstyling for curly hair. There are some wonderful home made recipes for scalp and hair which are wonderful (try the scalp scrub - my head never felt so good).

The sum up is this - if you have curly hair and want to go with the flow rather than fight it, this book is for you. There is enough curl therapy here to keep you happy for a long time.

NO SHAMPOO!!! - be prepared for a revelation!5
If you have got curly hair this book will change your life!

The whole philosophy is to stop using shampoo and allow your hair to get back to nature... and it's not as revolting as it sounds as you still use conditioner and just treat your hair really gently.

The first week admittedly my hair was a bit smelly and heavy feeling, but by the second week it was beginning to blossom. By using some of the natural recipes in the book you can keep your hair really clean and fresh smelling.

My usually problematic hair is now a wonderful soft mass of ringlets and I'm getting compliments at least once a week. When I tell people my secret they are quite surprised and I'm now a complete evangelist for this book!

You will save the money you spend on this book within months by not buying more overpriced hair products that don't work.
