Customer Reviews
Every horror fan should own a copy.
I heard about Greasepaint and Gore long before I bought it, and read all of the great reviews. Now I have my own copy, and have to say what a fabulous book it is. For once we don't get the "official" versions of history, but rather the real insights into what life was like when Hammer was great.
Ashton was a marvel and a great influence on what was to follow Hammer in the field of horror. How refreshing to read a book with new photos And stories about Hammer.
This book is a real "collectors' edition":beautifully designed and printed on high quality paper, and impossible to put down - even on its third reading! Every horror fan should own a copy. Wow!
A very odd book
I bought this very expensive book sight unseen expecting it to be about the monsters in the Hammer horror films that Roy Ashton created. Instead it is a very slim volume about Ashton himself, written in a rather turgid style. The pictures are excellent, but it is rather a bland (and very brief) read. I expected a lot more,
