About Us
Hanney Book Club was established in May 2005 and during that time we have read an eclectic mix of books including travel, documentary, classical, non-fiction, popular and children’s titles. Our book club serves the villages of East and West Hanney in South West Oxfordshire. We meet the first Thursday of the month at 8pm in the local pub, The Plough Inn which is a 16th century thatched inn opposite the village church in West Hanney. We love meeting in the pub as we can have a drink whilst discussing the intricacies of a book and no one has to commit to hosting a meeting every month (and all the work that would entail!). Because of the flexibility of the meeting venue we can have between 10 or 20 people attending a meeting and we choose our books democratically from a list of titles that all members put forward. Our group is predominantly female and we are of all ages and from all walks of life. These varied backgrounds lead to interesting and sometimes humorous discussions and debates and we often digress onto other topics which may seem tenuously related to the book. New members from East and West Hanney (and the environs) are always welcome, please return to our website for further details.
