Average customer review:
This was the fist book I illustrated for Black Library, and it includes a couple of double-page spreads of my work, and a bunch of smaller illos derived from these. It's a good read for those that like Warhammer.

Product Description

"Empire at War" is a lavish book detailing famous battles in Warhammer. Each battle is examined, discussed and dissected: it's historical context, the main players, opposing tactics with illustrative maps, armies and equipment, important events and how the battles panned out. The writer concludes with lessons to be learned, digresses the aftermath of the battle and pontificates on what may have happened had the battle gone the other way. Accompanying the words is loads of fabulous art and battle maps.

Customer Reviews

Imaginative and useful!5
As an Empire Player i easily became interested in the book to look upon the history of my army and the great battles that took place. However soon enough, it soon became more than just another source book to marvel at, it gave me ideas on how to take these tactics into my battles and soon enough i was playing battles almost exactly to how it was played in the book! So if you're an Empire player who needs some inspiration for a new strategy to overcome your unbeatable foe, than this book will serve you well! For Sigmar!

The Art of War in the Warhammer World5
This background book for the Empire contains details on five historic battles with notes on the tactics used as well as information on the causes and aftermath of each battle. Of the five battles included three will be quite well known to Warhammer players, the battles of Hell Fen which saw the defeat of Manfred von Carstein, Kislev's Gate during the Great War against Chaos and Black Fire Pass where Sigma destroyed a massive orc hoard. These battles are well detailed and although there are some differences between the information presented here and background released previously, these differences are slight and do not detract from the book.

The remaining two battles are just as interesting to read as the famous battles and all five battles give some great tactical advice which would be useful for any Empire player. The book also includes a large number of great illustrations and although some of these have been reproduced elsewhere they are all brilliantly drawn and suit the book well. This book is a must buy for any Empire player and would be interesting for anyone who loves the background of the Warhammer World.
