Customer Reviews
Another brilliant installation to the X-treme hardcore series
Great album with some top tracks on it. Just what I was looking for in the CD. CD1 mixed by Darren Styles is brilliant, the classic Darren Styles mixes, rather than the newer style found on his Skydivin' album.
CD2 is mixed by Breeze, and is my least favourite of the 3CD combination, I find it a bit too much for my taste in music, however it is listenable, i don't skip the tracks when played on shuffle on my ipod for example.
CD3 is the bonus Hixxy CD and is a very good bonus to the other 2 CDs, some great tunes on this CD and It's very good to listen to.
The intro to CD1, followed by Darren Styles - Come Running sends a shiver through me, that is how good it sounds.
I started writing a list of my favourite tracks, but ended up with nearly the whole CD, so... definately recommended.
Great CD.
A shameless but enjoyable guilty pleasure
Styles, Breeze and Hixxy are together responsible for ruining the image of hardcore, with the chav-bait on the cover more or less saying it all about the market at which this is pitching. However, tacky and cheesy though it may be, I am not the kind of man who lets prejudice get in the way of quality music, so I forked out and gave it a shot: Whatever bigotry might lead you to expect will be blasted away by the catchy melodies, euphoric synth-stabs and bouncy drums for which we have all reluctantly come to love the raver-baby trio. There is nothing subtle, and of course nothing of musical merit, but none of that matters, as this album is all about non-stop guilty pleasure. It is also surprisingly original, and only occasionally do they succumb to the temptation of recycling an old track.
CD1 - Styles' mix is uncharacteristically awful. But don't let this put you off, as there is plenty of better stuff to come on the next couple of discs. Only a few of his tracks are passable (Girlfriend, Hands of Time, etc.), and if you have a particular wish to hear him on form, then this is not the album for you.
CD2 - Plenty of chavcore anthems from the Breeze, who has gone for a predictable but enjoyable blend of big synthesizer hooks and cheesy strings. It is formulaic, and there is little room for excitement or inspiration (he leaves that to Hixxy), but all in all it's a solid compilation. The best tracks on offer are his re-mixes of more mainstream stuff (Heaven, See the Light, Burning Love) but some of his own stuff (Don't Go Away, Sometimes) is good too.
CD1 - Hixxy is a genius. Anything this man touches turns to gold. If you don't believe me, buy this album and you soon will. This disc makes the whole set worthwhile on its own, plus some more - A mix this flawless would make a list of highlights so long as to be pointless. The only mistake he made was "The "C" Commander", which is possibly the worst song you'll ever hear. Get out a chisel and scratch track 12 from the disc. Then we'll all be happy.
In summary, this album just about earns its fifth star: although if you're a musical snob it will drive you crazy, x-treme 4 is of the best current hardcore releases, with enough saccharin-sweet euphoric anthems to make you rush off paracetamol.
BANGING
