Great film starts with great lenses
The SX50 is fitted with a Vario–Tessar lens made by Carl Zeiss, the world renowned optical specialists. These premium lenses are highly rated by photographers for their colour precision, superb contrast and extremely low distortion levels at all focal lengths. Add to this an incredible optical zoom that extends to 60x magnification and you have the capability to shoot with amazing detail even when the subject is at a distance. If you need to go even closer you also have a digital zoom of up to 2000x, though optical zoom is generally considered superior because it physically moves the lens rather than moving in on the image. The SX50 makes it easy for you to see what you’re doing when you set up your shots too. The large, tilting LCD display uses reflective technology to give excellent visibility even in direct sunlight.

Start fast so you don’t miss the moment
Great action can come and go very quickly so you don’t want to waste valuable time starting up your camera. Start the SX50 in a matter of seconds: just flip open the LCD screen, touch the start key and you’re ready to shoot. Later, the Face Index function automatically detects scenes with faces, and the handy Film Roll Index feature summarises long scenes, to make it easier to browse through hours of footage.

SteadyShot Active Mode to reduce picture blur
If you are shooting with the camera in your hand, there is always a danger of camera shake spoiling your picture, even if your subject is stationary. SteadyShot is a handy digital image stabiliser that is active every time you shoot. This is especially important when using the powerful zoom to close in on details. The SX50 lets you record stereo sound in close–up too. Its super smart mic zooms in with your optical zoom to cut out background and foreground noise and concentrate on sounds that matter, such as conversation.

One touch disc burn and easy PC back up
One of the great pleasures of shooting film is sharing it with family and friends. It couldn’t be easier with the SX50. Transfer your films to your PC using a super–fast USB 2.0 connection and use your DVD burner to make DVD copies. If you want to share your movies on the move, or free up memory space, you can do it quickly by using the optional DVD burner. This attaches directly to the SX50 with a single cable.

PMB (Picture Motion Browser software)
Managing your movie collection is hugely simplified by this software which is included with the SX50. Just install it on your PC and it provides a perfect archive for your films which are all just a click or two away. You can arrange them by date, by person, and search through them quickly. From this archive, you can burn them to discs, send them to friends or upload them to sites in a matter of seconds. If you connect your SX50 directly to any TV or computer you can view your work on the big screen too.

Excellent value .......Easy to use.
What a wonderful camcorder this is. Extremely easy to use. Hardly used instruction manual as touch screen instructions are very clear and easy to understand and follow. Have recorded on hard drive as well as memory card and both are easy to transfer to PC and then to DVD. I have a Sony Vaio laptop and so already has a pro duo memory slot for transferring onto PC but just as easy to transfer direct from camcorder to PC. Camcorder can also take still photos. Camcorder is small and light but would recommend the purchase of a case.
Would recommend this camera as a first time buy to gain experience in this field of photography. Would upgrade eventually to a similar camcorder with HD.

Small and Perfectly Formed
What can I say? I wasn't sure that a flash memory camera was going to be this good, how wrong was I! I've always loved Sony branded products. I have always found them to be of great quality. This camera has only gone to reinforce my love of this brand.
A little more about the camera. It sits beautifully in the palm of your hand, the touch screen controls are intuative and really easy to get to grips with. Battery life is exceptable, but if you need to film for more than 2 hours get an extra battery. Transfering films and pictures from the camera is a breeze with the bundled software. Hours of footage tranfers in literally seconds (well couple of minutes). But hey..I rememeber footage on my old tape camcorder having to be played into my computer in real time...It took hours and hours of having to encode mini DV into digital format.
As soon as your films and photos are on your hard drive you can be editing and making DVDs in minutes or play footage directly onto your TV with the supplied cables.
I love the 16:9 widescreen abilities and stereo sound output of this camera. I was tempted to go for an HD camcorder, but for the sort of money this camera cost you really can't go wrong. HD is still an expensive luxury.
Superb quality product that does exactaly what you would expect of a modern digital camcorder with no shortcomings. Easy to use, you'll be capturing all those special memories in minutes ..in short..I LOVE IT!

Small Wonder !
I bought this camcorder 2 weeks ago after my Sony DCR-HC32 gave up the ghost.

I was immediately impressed by the size and weight (small, sits well in the hand) and the image quality is very good for a non-HD camcorder.

This model has 16GB storage built in- this will last for ages- certainly about 5 tapes-worth if you compare to mini-DV.

My only disappointment so far is that you can't take a photo while filming, even though there is a separate slot for an additional memory stick.

An excellent piece of kit ! (my third Sony Camcorder)
