CD Description
Surrey five-piece You Me At Six release their highly anticipated debut album, which follows a host of live appearances in 2008, including the Reading and Leeds Festivals. Taking influence from the likes of Blink 182, Fallout Boy and My Chemical Romance, 'Take Off Your Colours' utilises catchy hooksto draw the listener in while pleasing pop-punk and rock fans with heavy and fast guitar riffs. Singles include 'Jealous Minds Think Alike'.

Exciting and promising debut
I have been a fan of the band since they started out and was really looking forward to the album. On the whole the album is very good, but with the removal of a couple of tracks it could have been a 5 star album
Track by track:
The truth is a terrible thing - probably the worst song. Sounds quite generic and predictable. Shouldn't have been on the album.
4/10
Gossip - good catchy song with a very good chorus, not as good as the original recording though.
7/10
Call that a comeback - good opening riff and rhythm to the song, good harmonies, all aspects good.
8/10
Jealous minds think alike - 1st single, good changes of tempo, catchy, dynamic good melodies.
9/10
Save it for the bedroom - Very good song, upbeat with a great feel to it, but re recording is very poor compared to original.
7/10
Take off your colours - Not a bad song, but for the title song it doesn't live up to expectation. Too repetitive sounding, but does have a good vocal harmony at the end.
5/10
You've made your bed - Excellent song, beautiful melody and excellent chorus. Very good vocal harmonies and "woah's". Original B side to SIFTB was better, but this is still excellent.
10/10
If you run - Pretty damm heavy for YMA6 and is excellent. Powerful opening, catchy verses, really well sung and has a superb aggressive breakdown.
9/10
Tigers and sharks - beautiful melody to it which makes the song. A really reflective emotional song - the one everyone will be swaying to at live shows.
9/10
If I were in your shoes - A proper rock song, cool guitar riffs in the verses and a really good guitar solo. This is a really impressive song.
10/10
Always attract - The semi-acoustic 6 minute song gradually builds up to beautiful ending. Great vocal harmonies and guest vocals from Joshes sister Elissa.
8/10
Nasty habits - Not a bad song, reminds me of Jimmy eat world to some extent. Verses don't grab your attention very well, but the chorus is very catchy and you'll definitely find yourself tapping to the beat.
6/10
The rumour - Epic song. The band have been playing this song for a long time now and it always creates a brilliant atmosphere live. Really good original song. Still prefer the old recording, but this is still great.
8/10
On the whole this album is really good, just has a couple of fillers which could have been removed. Only other criticism are the lyrics, as some of them don't seem to make sense. These guys are better than any American band of the same genre.
Very good but a few tracks very poor compared to originals!
I have listened to YMA6 for quite a while now, and was quite excited to hear the debut album as the quality of the old tracks were quite poor as the bitrate was quite low.
The album has a few new tracks which are excellent and compliment the old ones, but the old favourites such as "Gossip", "Save It For The Bedroom", "You've Made You're Bed" and "The Rumour" have been completely ruined in their re-recordings!
Dont get me wrong they are not completely rubbish because the instruments are still spot on, but the expressions in the vocals have been changed slightly, and it just doesnt sound right.
If you are already a You Me At Six fan, then you will probably give this a 4/5 like me, but if you are a first time listener then this will most likely be a 5 star for you as this band have produced some quality, original stuff here.
Amazing.
This is an amazing album. Best I've heard this year! Definatly worth buying! You Me At Six are also AMAZING live!
