Product Description

This is a book of reflections by fairly famous “freethinkers” on such things as deciding not to raise your child based on a religion, living in a religious culture, holidays and rites of passage, ethics, values, morality, nurturing the love of knowledge, and science. The contributors include medical professionals, psychologists, educators, and secular parents.

Customer Reviews

Parenting Beyond Belief5
"Raising ethical, caring kids without religion" may seem pretty much like normality in the UK, but whether you've made a positive decision to bring up your children free from religion or that's just the way life is turning out, this book is a great resource.

The articles have been gathered from various sources, and although it is an American book, it does include British contributors such as biologist Richard Dawkins, philosopher Stephen Law and humanists James Herrick and Jane Wynne Willson.

Dale McGowan has edited the book with humour, intelligence, clear-thinking and sensitivity. His words guide us through the chapters which vary in length, age and topic, and of course relevance to the particular reader. I personally found commentaries about dealing with death and discussions about Santa very useful and I am sure I will be returning to the book as my children develop, age and encounter life's challenges.

And, once you've read the book, there's an internet forum to further explore your ideas, and talk of a second book on its way too.
