The Best Introductory Book on Humanism5
This is a very enlightening and insightful book which describes the main principles of modern Humanist belief. Chapters are short (the chapter on morals is a mere 6 pages which I think is great!) and sweet and look at Science and Religion, the Problem of Evil, Evolution, The Scientific Method, Mind and Soul, and Death amongst other chapters. Chapters this size and written with such clarity are eminently readable.

The book has one major advantage over a number of books on Humanism and that is that, while clearly written and intelligent, it does not over-intellectualise. This is a book that everyone can read and enjoy. The writers are great communicators. The chapter I personally liked best of all was the section on the Humanist basis for morals in which the writers identify pursuing the wellbeing (rather than simply happiness) of others as a goal of humanist ethics.

I would recommend this book to all Humanists and to anyone looking for a quick and clear introduction to Humanism.
