Synopsis
The British Isles must be amongst the most spectrally populous parts of the world, and this book is a must for anyone interested in the ranks of dismembered, decapitated spectres that inhabit the country's stately homes and blasted heaths.Region by region, renowned ghost-seeker Richard Jones reveals, explains and delights in the tales of tortured phantoms eager to restage their dark and turbulent past. They are all included here, from the ghostly legionaries that tramp the long-buried streets of Roman York to the malevolent fairy lights of Derbyshire's Longdendale - and from the shade of Lapford's murderous vicar to the grief-stricken white lady who may or may not have attended Madonna's wedding at Dornoch's legendary Skibo Castle.Richard Jones' authoritative and entertaining guide to haunted sites is handsomely designed and illustrated throughout with extraordinary ghostly photographs, detailed, four-colour maps and extracts from original documents.

VERY VERY GOOD.
This book is for anyone who has an interest, even a partial interest in ghosts and hauntings. it is a fascinating book with plenty of locations that cover every corner of the british isles. Jones as with his other books, he set each chapter out in areas, e.g. south-west, south-east etc.its set out very well.
i read this book in two days,i couldnt put it down.
the stories are fascinating and the pages are full of brilliant colour photos.this really is a great book. the stories of the ghosts and hauntings are covered very well without drawing them out or going into too much detail.
i thoroughly enjoyed this book.reading the stories and gazing at the magnificent photos.i would recommend this book to anyone with an interest in ghosts, and even to those who dont.you wont find a better, more attractively set out book on the subject of ghosts.
Richard Jones' Haunted Britain & Ireland
When I developed a fascination with ghosts my parents bought me this book. For many months it sat on my bookshelf unread. One day my partner & I were bored & decided to find out if there were any places in the book that were near to our home in Essex. We found Borley Rectory in the book & after reading the exciting story of the location we jumped into the car & went straight there. As predicted by the book there were fellow ghost hunters at the rectory which we had not expected at 23:00 on a saturday night! After only a few minutes we became rather uneasy & decided to retreat. (we wussed out!) Once we arrived home again we read the entire contents of the book in a few hours & oved every bit of it. We plan to visit as many places in it as possible!
A brilliant book
Richard Jones has explored the length and breadth of the UK looking for fascinating and mysterious tales of ghosts and spirits, and his journey ends with the publication of this book. A well known historian, Jones has written several books including a quide to London's ghosts (Walking Haunted London, also well worth a look) and is perhaps best known for his role as historian on the cult show Most Haunted. The book is heavily illustrated with large colour photographs, which accompany a lively and interesting text which admittedly isn't as detailed as could have been, but this is only a slight critique on my behalf - a very worthy addition to anybody's bookshelf!
