Product Description

The Black Lace Book of Women's Sexual Fantasies reveals the most private thoughts of hundreds of women. Here are sexual fantasies which on first sight appear shocking or bizarre - such as the bank clerk who wants to be a vampire and the nanny with a passion for Darth Vader. Kerri Sharp investigates the recurrent themes in female fantasies and the cultural influences that ahve determined them: from fairy stories to cult TV; from fetish fashion to historical novels. Sharp argues that sexual archetypes - such as the 'dark man of the psyche' - paly an important role in arousal, allowing us to find gratification safely through personal narratives of adventure and sexual abandon.

From the Publisher
Mission statement about the Book of Women's Sexual Fantasies
What I set out to achieve with this book was to debunk various myths which have grown up around female sexual fantasy. One mail shot resulted in over 2000 responses from women from all over the English-speaking world, and a couple of hundred of them make up this no-holds-barred collection. The subject is of consistent interest, largely due to the diversity of the female sexual imagination. The women who have contributed to this project have relished putting together their contributions, and the result is a stunning catalogue of elaborate and highly explicit thoughts. Not for the faint-hearted! The fantasies collected in this book are largely devoid of guilt, and are about self-indulgence - the greatest of all female sins (sic). The fantasies are organised into categories with titles including Bondage, Punishment and All the Trimmings, and 'Vampires, Beasts and OTher Beings'. Popular cultural influences on our sexual imaginations are investigated, from pop stars to films, fashion and fairy stories. There's even a section on the role punk music played in changing the course of female self-identity.

The taboos are also explored: for instance, the common misnomer, 'rape fantasy' usually applies to fantasies no more shocking than those where the object of YOUR desire is overcome with passion for YOU. In this case, the 'myth' is perpetuated by a problem of vocabulary; there isn't a 'friendly' word which sums up this particular desire. Maybe 'narcissistic' or 'submissive' is better, but the problem is that it's not as snappy a label. Bust those taboos!

I've looked at the history of patriarchal Western religious dogma, too, which has taught us to feel a sense of shame instead of celebration about the fun we can have with our bodies, and the hypocracy which still exists around this subject in certain quarters. Although things are getting better, we shouldn't become too complacent about the ownership of our bodies. Reclaim pleasure, rejoice in life, and practise kindness to all living things. Enjoy!

Hot for sex!5
This book is very informative and helps to explain that some of the things that we secretly fantasise about are normal. It opened my mind to my fantasies. The book includes many short fantasies, some better than others. Once I began reading the book I snatched every minute I could to read the next bit. I insisted that my husband read the book...it has opened up a whole new world of fantasies to us. I would recommend the book to anyone who wants to light a spark in their lovemaking and thee book can be read by both man or woman...or even better still together!

Okay, but I've read better3
This book was okay, but I thought the cover was in poor taste. Also, the fantasies were interesting, but the presentation was a bit dull. Rather than read clips of women's fantasies, I would rather read stories that describe the fantasy in more detail, such as in Nancy Madore's "Bedtime Stories for Women" where many of the same fantasies these women describe are ellaborated on in fairy tale "fantasy" stories for women. This book reminded me of Nancy Friday's book of women's fantasies, which I also read and found interesting but not very sensual.

Makes you realise your fantasies are quite tame!!4
I found this book a total mind opener. We all have fantasies but think that nobody else thinks the same, after you have read this you will realise that somebody out there shares the same fantasy. Exciting to read. Some of the fantasies mentioned aree quite tame but others are totally different and gave me something do dream about!!
