Contemporary musicals should look here for inspiration5
This is probably the best soundtrack ever produced by MGM studios, alongwith the equally outstanding "Singing in the Rain." From the uplifting"Bless your beautiful Hide" to the sweet ballad form of "When you're inlove",Seven brides for seven brothers should always be classed as one ofthe musical greats. The unmistakeable voice of Howard Keel adds to theHollywoodness of the musical where Jane Powell's more operatic voice givesa perfect nified performance. However, the unforgettable voice of RussTamblyn lifts this musical beyond all heights. "Goin courtin" is thedefinitive favourite among audiences where as I find "Sobbin Woman" to bethe highlight of the score. The only downfall is that with the CD youdon't get to view the spectacular dance scenes or the charasmaticrelationships the characters have. Thus being, I would recommend buyingthe DVD or video to accompany this CD. Brilliant

An old favourite in need of revival5
Having watched the movie several thousand times, it was an simple choicefor me to buy this soundtrack at the first available oppurtunity. Theopening songs show MGM studios for what they really are good at, blissful, mesmorising musicals. Every song from "Bless your beautiful hide" to "goincourtin" brim with charisma and the voices of Howard Keel and Jane Powellmake reminising this movie an enjoyable experience. However, the true starof this soundtrack is Russ Tamblyn, also known for his roles in Tom Thumband West Side Story. His voice rings with almost child - like innicenseand he delivers his somewhat minor role of Gideon perfectly. (Listen toSobbin Women for a giggle.) The music made this soundtrack one of the mostmemorable Hollywood greats, and I would also recommend the purchasing ofthe video or DVD along with it. Sheer Brilliance.
