Editorial Reviews

Amazon.co.uk Review
Based around a battle between good old-fashioned family values and comically corrupt authority, and always finding time for an action-packed car chase or two, the Dukes of Hazzard was perfect fun-filled family entertainment for its teatime viewing audience. Light on plotting, each episode featured the ongoing feud between the Duke family--loveable rogues Bo and Luke, their sexy cousin Daisy and Uncle Jesse--and the weasly duo of Boss Hogg and Sheriff Rosco P Coltrane.

But the plot was arbitrary really; what audiences really waited for were the scenes involving General Lee--a souped-up Dodge Charger--racing, jumping, skidding and even flying around in hot pursuit of the baddies. That and Daisy Duke's fetching collection of hot pants. The Duke's theme tune became another series hallmark, performed by country music star Waylon Jennings, who also provided the cheesy voice-over narration.

The original series ran from 1979-1985 and the three episodes featured here are taken from the second series: "Treasure of Hazzard", "Officer Daisy Duke" and "Mason Dixon's Girls". Taking the same premise for most episodes, this wasn't groundbreaking television but comfortable viewing that gratified its viewers with harmless action, humour and an idyllic view of life in the southern US of A.

On the DVD: The Dukes of Hazzard's DVD special features are all text and photo-based, with "The General Lee: Star Car" offering a breakdown of the car's exact specifications. "Moonshine Merchandise" shows an array of tie-in products. Naturally enough there's a Daisy Duke photo gallery. --Laura Bushell

dukes vol 14
have got this & vol 2, good memories of the show, however 2 episodes is not enough, will have to buy the complete season, when its available.

NOW, THAT'S WHAT I CALL ENTERTAINMENT, Vol.1!5
From the released date I have been wondering whether some old fashioned guys from my years of innocence could emerge the emotions hidden inside the troubles of everyday life... They seem that despite the lack of hype -they never intended for!- and the minimal reference to what we consider now as "successful living", they developed a mutual chemistry with the audiences worldwide - in fact against all odds! Today money means everything to most, but not for Bo, Luke and Uncle Jessie who put traditional values - God, Family, Friendship & Love - on top. Even the bad guys of the series like Roscoe and Boss, they never used indecent language or practiced any phycical harm in the way modern television provides. I am so happy that my all-time favourite TV show finds its way on DVD and I'm looking forward to seeing more episodes released in the near future! A MUST buy!

Yee-Haa!!!4
I can't imagine anyone buying this who didn't watch it as a kid, so there's no need to explain what the show's about. The disc contains 3 of the early episodes, in 4:3 with a mono soundtrack. The picture quality is surprisingly good, and all of your favourite characters are included - Bo, Luke, Daisy, Uncle Jesse, Boss Hogg, Rosco, Enos and Cooter.

There's not much in the way of extras compared to more modern material, just a few stills of Daisy and the General Lee, and a few stats about the show.

You'll need your rose tinted spectacles when watching this - some of the effects are showing their age. I certainly don't remember the in-car scenes having a projected background. However, that's kind of missing the point - this is good clean fun that will have you fondly remembering Saturday evenings in front of the TV when you were younger.

Fans of the car will be disappointed in that there are no jumps in any of the episodes featured here, nor is the famous Dixie horn sounded anywhere - so best to wait for some of the later episodes if that's what you're after.

If this whets your appitite, there are lots of other 80s shows out on DVD, like the A-Team and Knight Rider. I bought this while on a nostalgia trip, having watched a few too many 'I love 1980' type shows. So was the trip worth it? On the whole - yes.
