Monumental Mahler
This is a fine compilation of some of the most beautiful music Gustav Mahler ever composed. Wonderfully performed by the various orchestras, the atmosphere generates by their playing touches the emotions. My only criticism really is that I would have liked the final movement from the massive Third Symphony to have been included rather than two movements from his First. Still, a good buy for those who like their Mahler in brief chuncks, although devout Mahlerians prefer their big helpings. If you are not familiar with Mahler, try this for a taster. You never know, you may become hooked and want to go out and purchase the full symphonies. A nice way to spend a quiet evening.
