Product Description

Gok Wan is no fashion elitist, and this has made him the most popular and powerful man in British fashion. With his irresistible formula of entusiasm, taste and overwhelming positivity, Gok transformed the nation's fashion sense on his hit show How to Look Good Naked. His infectious passion for fashion has given British women the confidence to love themselves for just who they are. And they just can't get enough of him - 'literally!' Gok was raised on a tough council estate in Leicester and targeted by school bullies for being gay and overweight.Yet more trying times lay ahead when he escaped to drama school in London only to realise that he simply didn't fit in. But this only made Gok more determined than ever to make his mark on the world. He quit drama, taught himself to be a make-up artist and stylist and soon became a darling of the fashion world and personal stylist for some of our hottest celebrities. Then came the hit shows How to Look Good Naked and Gok's Fashion Fix. It's all been a whirlwind, but Gok is loving every minute of it. Having once weighed 21 stone, Gok knows only too well what it is like to be self-conscious about one's body, and it is his empathy with everyday people which has endeared him to so many. Gok is a man of hidden depths, and in this inspirational biography, Emily Herbert traces the extraordinary life and times of the nation's favourite fashion guru, painting a fascinating portrait of a national hero in the making.

Customer Reviews

Utter drivel1
Total and utter rubbish, full of pointless and unrelated archive material presumably spewed and regurgitated by Ms Herbert in past articles (the nonsense on Linda Barker and 'Changing Rooms' was a particular highlight).
Full of basic grammatical errors and spelling mistakes it reads like a 1st year undergrad Media Studies essay. On second thoughts, that is maybe a bit too unkind to Media Studies students.....

If you are really interested in Gok you'll gain a better insight from Wikipedia

Self indulgent tripe1
I saw a tramp ask Gok Wan "millionaire" if he would like to buy his last big issue the other day just outside the Comedy theatre in london.Wan told the tramp to go away and then retreated into a Korean restaurant where he was taken to the V.I.P area.I would have thought that a man who had come from such an abusive, "rough" background would have been able to recognise and empathise with the plight of others.Dont worry Wan,I bought the issue off the homeless man and had an enjoyable night telling everyone what a Gok you are.
