Essential for Kitaro fans
Silk Road is the soundtrack for the TV documentary called 'Silk Road', which aired in Japan. It looked at the trade route between Europe and China. Silk Road originally was produced on 2 albums, and is generally considered to be the most well known and popular work Kitaro has ever produced. In other words, it gave Kitaro recognition, and put him on the map.
The 'Best of Silk Road' takes some of the best work from the original 2 albums and puts them on one album. The album starts of with the 'Theme From Silk Road' (which is one of the best songs on the CD), and ends with 'Pray at Xian/Mercury' (which features Kitaro on the flute - lasting almost 18 minutes!). It is interesting to note that 'Pray at Xian/Mercury' was not included in the original 2 Silk Road albums. So it is unique to this album.
For those who are unfamiliar with Kitaro's music, it is often described as music for meditation. It goes further than that. It's all about music from the heart and soul, and conveying the Earth, nature and the surrounding environment into the music. The music that he produces is really unique.
All in all, 'The Best of Silk Road' is a fantastic album, and is a must for any Kitaro fan. It is extremely difficult to get the original 2 Silk Road albums. So buying the 'Best of Silk Road' is the next best option - a choice that you won't regret!
The Best of Silk Road by Kitaro
A wonderful way to relax and take time out of this noisy world. Haunting melodies with an eastern flavour. It reminds me very much of a holiday I spent in Turkey a few years ago. I would recommend this as a pleasant addition to your collection.
