Customer Reviews
boogie-tastic
Please ignore the other reviews as this seems to be fault on the webiste as these reviews must be pertaining to another relase as this was only released itself on the 28th September 2009. HK seem to be keeping the flow of decent releases on a constant level . Total uplifting vocal, gospel house, ab fab for most of the way..!! Stand out tracks for me, Can't stop the rain, Who's been sleeping in my bed, Brave new world, however few tracks towards end of CD1 and at beginning of CD2 see a drop in tempo and flow can't understand why most of these would be included, but still worth the purchase to rev you up for the weekend or going for it at the gym..!!
Most consistently uplifting Hed Kandi ever?
The run of high quality Hed Kandi compilations continues to gather pace. Proving that they are truly back on form, this Disco Heaven collection delivers soulful, string-heavy melodic dance music.
The tracks (which appear in full extended versions) feel like they have been picked very carefully, offering a unified vision of how disco has progressed from the late 70s to the present day. Informed by house, but not overwhelmed by basslines, there is a fantastic sense of dancefloor euphoria. Nowhere is this more powerful than in Sosua & Mad's 'Supaconstellation', which distills all the best elements of 70s disco into one naggingly insistent hook.
The more organic disco of the Salsoul era is well represented by tracks like 'La La La' by Leggz feat. Stephanie and 'Rollin' by Jacy C and Marcella Woods, which have a gorgeous South American vibe.
Other standout tracks include an urgently galloping remix of Moony's 'I Don't Know Why', the tensely melodramatic 'Feel So High' by Hardwell and a blissed-out piano heavy 'Promised Land' by The Collective Vs Peyton.
The album's artwork, by Jason Brooks, is beautifully simple and elegant.
There isn't a dud track across either disc. Never falling into the trap of offering pastiche, this genuinely feels like the authentic sound of 70s disco but with the additional power offered by modern production techniques.
A superb album that may even be the most consistently uplifting Hed Kandi release yet.
Heaven Gone Down....... :(
I have followed Disco Heaven for years now and have always loved Disco Heaven the most out of all house compilations and just can never get enough! Every year has gotten better and better and better! Until......
Disco Heaven 2008... Lets just say that it's still cool, but it sounds like a round up of the best tracks from all the Stereo Sushi volumes this year, butchered and then poorly mixed and blended with boring tracks you would normally find on one of those Ministry Of Sound Housexy compilations. There have been so many other great funky, soulful diva house tracks out there this year so it's a bit of a let down.
While I'm disappointed, I am gonna be positive for next year. Fingers crossed for 2009!
