Helen Love is back at it again
This compilation full-length disc, Helen Love's third, is truly a delight for the hard-core Helen Love fan. If you only have a casual interest in her then I'd suggest Radio Hits 1. This disc contains songs from her Love and Glitter LP, including all the classics, like 'Does Your Heart Go Boom' and 'Shifty Disco Girl'. Helen Love's sound has evolved over the years, and she is now a little more digital and reliant on computer technology than in years past. That's not to say that she doesn't rock out; technology doesn't mean trance music. Also on the record is an updated version of 'Punk Boy' that has her idol, Joey Ramone, sharing the vocals. Now I know that some might not like this version, but I think it pays homage to the original. Another song, 'Long Live the UK Music Scene' is one of her finest songs, new or old, and 'Sunburst Super Kay' is a tribute to her primitive recording methods. You see, you don't need an expensive sound studio or state of the art equipment to make great music - that's what Helen love is all about. The lyrics are still sharp. Her biting satire on British pop culture remains as entertaining as ever; I mean, we all can visualize the shifty disco girl looking like 'Marc Bolan on a bad hair day', can't we? In summation, Helen Love is number one fantastic, her songs are catchy and you'll end up humming them all day. From Swansea Bay to the USA!!!
