Product Description

Open, honest and upbeat, this book gives personal insight into both the ups and downs of an Asperger relationship. Seeking to challenge the bad press that people with Asperger Syndrome (AS) get as partners, Sarah and Keith tell their story of how they are making it work - and also how they got it wrong - with disarming frankness and humour. When Sarah and Keith met in 2003 neither knew much about Asperger Syndrome. Sarah thought Keith was 'weird' and couldn't work out why; and Keith thought Sarah was obsessed with diagnosing him with something-or-other. Difficulties ensued that brought the relationship to an end. Slowly, however, they each built up their knowledge of AS and in the meantime developed a mutual understanding, mutual acceptance and a desire to be together again. This personal account is supplemented with professional knowledge and anecdotes gained from Sarah's work with adults with AS - a career which started as a result of her experiences with Keith. She swears that she didn't take her work home with her! It is inspiring reading for couples in Asperger relationships as well as for counselling professionals.

Customer Reviews

the best so far5
I have read a number of books relating to Aspergers and relationships, and I find this one the most inspiring and authentic. I was surprised that I saw more of myself in Sarah than my partner in Keith. It is an honest account of a difficult but rewarding journey. This book is definitely a must read for anyone looking for an example of a loving AS/NT relationship that works...it works for me!

Brilliant, genuine and so insightful5
A book I've found extremely helpful, partly because I could really identify with the couple who wrote it, and partly because it brought me some long-awaited insight and answers. Not many books out there do actually give you an insight of what concretely goes on inside your AS partner's head, on the very subjects you, the NT, are so confused about. It's very good because the book is written a bit like a dialogue (although not quite), but you get both partners to write about relevant topics, which lets you see how both ways of thinking differ. I'm grateful to Sarah and Keith for writing this book, definitely an interesting read full of "aha's!", a great way to understand better your partner's difficulties or "logic". This book allows you to take the necessary distance and understand things a bit less emotionally.

Excellent5
Not finished reading yet but am glued. So easy to relate to, just like reading about my partner and I. Has made me laugh out loud a few times. Can certainly recommend for anyone in an AS relationship.
