About the Author
As a child, Temple Grandin could not speak. Her silent existence was broken only by rhythmic rocking and occasional fits of screaming and thrashing. Diagnosed with autism, Temple's many caregivers eventually helped her contradict her doctors' morbid predictions and go on to become one of the autism community's most beloved success stories. Temple Grandin, PhD, is a popular international lecturer on autism and the author of Emergence: Labeled Autistic, Thinking in Pictures, Animals in Translation, and Unwritten Rules of Social Relationships. One of the world's leading experts in livestock facility design, over half of the cattle in North America are handled in facilities designed by her. She credits her visual thinking and her systemizing mind, both characteristics of autism, for her ability to be "the woman who thinks like a cow." Temple continues to be an inspiration and role model to millions. Veronica Zysk has been working in the field of autism since 1991. She served as Executive Director of the Autism Society of America from 1991-1996, and then joined Future Horizons as Vice President of Administration. Veronica moved into an editorial position within the company in 1999, as Managing Editor and visionary for the first national magazine on ASD, the Autism Asperger's Digest, winner of several Gold awards for excellence. She continues in that position today. An award-winning book author, Veronica co-authored with Ellen Notbohm, 1001 Great Ideas for Teaching and Raising Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, a Learning Magazine 2006 Teachers' Choice Award winner, and has been the editorial driving force behind several collaborations with Dr. Temple Grandin: Unwritten Rules of Social Relationships, winner of ForeWord magazine's prestigious Book of the Year Silver Award and Dr. Grandin's most recent autism release, The Way I See It, based on columns written for the Digest magazine.

Very Easy To Read & Specific! A Must for Those Who Deal with Autistic & Asperger People 5
Skimming through this book, I found Dr. Temple Grandin explained each chapter lucidly and separated it into many, many segments so the readers can absorb each part quite easily. Simply put, this book is reader-friendly! On top of that, there is no complicated sentence at all! If you ask me, you can pick up any chapter that interests or applies to you quite a lot if you find it so hard to read it all through. The main reason is that not all the people with autism and Asperger syndrome(a/A) have the exactly same symptoms. For instance, one person with a/A hates fluorescent lights, while the other doesn't. Some with a/A suffer self-injuries, whereas others have different kinds of the symptoms. So I can highly recommend this book even to those who don't know so much about a/A as well. And I hope fewer people will misunderstand a/A and other developmental challenges by reading this easy-read book.

And for further information, why don't you browse Dr. Grandin's lectures on You Tube? I really got quite impressed by her way of speaking first time I saw her lecture. "Does she really have a/A?" - That was my first impression on her! I mean, she spoke so confidently that I felt I couldn't beat her in front of the audience. How did she overcome her a/A traits? I guess nobody can imagine she herself has a/A. I couldn't make such an intriguing speech like her.

One of the best autism guides4
Temple Grandin was the person who's 'Emergence' biography diagnosed the lifelong struggle I have with people, which I now know is Asperger's syndrome. I got this as soon as it came out and I feel it's the best guide to living with autism on the market. Some other ones are patronising or just don't give useful advice. Definately get it if you're autistic or someone in an important relationship to you has autism.
