The "Ideas" section helps you plan your trip with full-colour spreads covering the variety of attractions Malta has to offer, from the fortified town of Valletta and neolithic temples to the best places to eat and drink. The "Places" section breaks the city down into convenient areas, each chapter exploring a particular district, with eating, drinking and shopping options along with a run-down of the sights. "Essentials" lets you know how to get around, where to change money and everything else you might need for a smooth trip, while "Language" has enough phrases and vocabulary to help you make a few local friends.

Customer Reviews

Indispensible5
Having just returned from Holiday in Gozo, I found this book to be invaluable. Thought initially when I bought it that there would only be a small section on Gozo and it would be more about Malta, but no. Loads of information on both. What to see, what to do, where to go and where to eat. Fantastic...

Suitable for a week-long trip3
We took this Rough Guide on our week-long trip to Malta and it did just fine. The maps were good and the shortlists of the best things to get up to were useful.

However not up to the usual standard of the Rough Guide series really. Read more like a standard guide book, none of the context and rich detail I've come to expect from Rough Guides, which are typically my guide book of choice for any overseas trip.

If planning to stay longer than a week or to do some serious sightseeing I'd be inclined to look elsewhere.

Malta and Gozo covered wonderfully by a Maltese4
To visit the Maltese island without this guide would be a crime, and just to read as a companion to summer at home, is a pure joy, as it windes its way through Sliema , Valetta, and the three cities cloaked in history from the Siege of Malta. Its worthy notes on everything from shopping to historical little pieces are a treat, with a good selection of the hotels and eating establishments. Being a very organised traveller I surprisingly found this book a treat
