Bill Mooney was associate editor of the Thoroughbred Record and The Thoroughbred Times for many years, and staff writer for Blood-Horse magazine for four years. He has contributed to many horse racing programmes on cable channel ESPN. He collected an Eclipse Award for magazine writing in the U.S. He lives in Kentucky, close to the home of America's biggest race, the Kentucky Derby. George Ennor, who died at the end of 2005, spent more than 50 years writing for The Sporting Life and Racing Post newspapers. President of the Horserace Writers & Photographers Association for 20 years, the HWPA named an annual award in his honour.
