Synopsis
"This book is profound. It deserves a second reading. This is more than about horses. It's about you." Terry Tillman, World Renowned Leadership Coach, Trainer and Best-Selling Author Natural leadership liberates your right and destiny to have a joy-filled, healthy, abundant life. 'Guru?' offers you practical keys to unlock the spiritual intelligence that enables this. It shows how skilled coaching alongside horses will help you harness your natural potential to create a sustainable future and lead the life you are meant to. This not about horses - nor about coaching, business, psychology, philosophy, physics or theology. Inspired by one man's evolving relationship with horses - and through them to the spirit in all things - it challenges all these disciplines to raise their game. It is an extraordinary work: sometimes subtle, sometimes passionate, always provocative. 'Why talk to a guru? When you can whisper to a horse' With this intriguing question, Paul Hunting challenges our assumptions and paradigms that conceal the truth of who we are. He reveals phenomenal insights into the nature of man and the universe.
Customer Reviews
Profound and unexpected
Paul Hunting has written an extraordinary book. I read it because I was interested to know just how 'horse whispering' worked, and Paul's explanations are both logical and illuminating. The whole subject is deeper and more inspiring than I had ever imagined. However the real unexpected treat from 'Guru' is sharing such an intimate and incredibly open journey through the author's beliefs, resulting in a truly extraordinary learning. I learned things from 'Guru' that were not only unexpected but hugely intellectually and spiritually challenging.
Paul Hunting has been willing in this book to open himself and lay himself bare to a judgemental world; to share his thought processes and his own spiritual journey, revealing along the way a goliath of a modern day spiritual leader - at one turn superhuman, at the next flawed and vulnerable.
All of this comes with a wrapping of humour which is refreshingly acerbic, if at times the punning is almost too much to bear. There is also an amazing enlightenment for the reader on the works of Shakespeare and the Bible. I had always held the former in high regard, so I enjoyed Paul Hunting's shakespearian references as reminders of old and trusted friends, but I had always scorned the bible as pretty irrelevant to my life. Not any longer.
I cannot remember the last time that a book has so surprised and delighted me. It is simply a profound work that deserves to be at the heart of the modern day search for spiritual meaning in a ridiculously fast paced and rational world, where people are quick to judge each other, and where we are all too often trying desperately to be someone we are not, and making ourselves ill and unhappy in the process. Paul Hunting has provided something akin to a text book for self awareness. Now I guess its up to us.............Gareth Chick
