Moving, Funny and Inspirational
I picked up this book in America and was initialy drawn to it because it was about my favourite thing...dogs. On reading the cover I was a little wary as I can get upset at sad dog stories. I needn't have worried, this book is written in such a way, mixing anecdotes of abandoned dogs, with stories of hope and happiness and reaching out to make a difference, that you come away inspired rather than upset. It is also intersperced with interesting and informing facts on dog rescue/care.
Ken Foster's special interest is in rescueing and educating people on, Pit Bull Terriers. I learnt a lot about this breed through reading this book. Because I have had no experience of the breed I too suffered from the popular perception that they are a dangerous dog. read this and you will soon realise it is the shady characters that can be drawn to the breed that are the problem, not the breed itself. This book however, is not just about Pit Bulls, but about every dog.
I found myself laughing out loud at some of the stories as I recognised not only my dogs behaviour, but mine too (I know dogs shouldn't sleep in my bed...but) I read the book in one day and enjoyed every minute of it. I put the book down with a renewed sense of hope knowing that there are people out there like Ken Foster and his friends who don't walk on by problems (in this case abandoned dogs), but rather take them on without thought for the rational of it all. I hope that lots of people read this funny insightful book, the more people do, the better the world will be for our best friends.
It also includes lots of information on organisations connected to dog rescue and education and even photographic websites, where you can see Ken Foster's dogs (his third dog Sula is the cover girl of the book).
Buy it now and then buy it for your friends!
