An Excellent Introduction To New Wave Salsa
This varied collection of new wave salsa tracks is an excellent introduction for anyone unfamiliar with this music. The traditional South American salsa rhythms are given a fresh and modern spin. The range of tracks selected reflects the development of this music. The familiar and established names, such as Tito Gomez and Roberto Roena, are rightly included, and also the not so well known but deservedly selected salsa exponents, like Mimi Ibarra. Faced with the challenge of la casa (house) and hip hop to its traditional dominance of south american music, there has been a revitilisation from the over exposed sensual salsa of the late eighties to a more expansive and driven sound. Nothing demonstrates this more clearly than the unrestrained rhythms of Amar Sin Condicion featured here with Maelo, the seventh track on this collection. The focus for this modernisation has been in Miami, the new hotbed for the development of salsa, particularly with the independents based there at the forefront of this evolution, justifying their significant representation on this CD. While possibly too ecletic a collection for the genuine afficinado, this is certainly a worthwhile sample of the genre for the uninitiated and curious.
Light the match and step back
DJ Lubi - One of the Longest serving and best Salsa DJ's in the UK - has amassed and mission critical album for the Salsa scene accross the UK.
For years to come there will be no better album for beginners in the hundreds of salsa classes across the UK.
Every salsa teacher in the UK has struggled for years to find titles to recommend to their pupils in order to feed the addiction of their students. Now hear it is!!
With CD1 we get the build up, then CD2 cranks up the frenzy and with CD3 we are at a full blown salsa night club. All of the tracks are top quality. Some have been heard in clubs for years!! BUT the point is that now the beginners can get their hands on a CD that provides the music that they would be otherwise denied in their homes.
All hail Lubi!!
Great album for the novice
After hearing a lot about Salsa and wanting to actually hear some music I invested in this box set. At first I was bemused by the styles and rhythms which seemed to meld into one homogenous sound. However after awhile the diversity of the music began to come through and now I'm a convert to the style. This is essentially a set of CD's designed to make you get up and dance (or do something), which must represent excellent value. I certainly have appreciated the good time feel of the music which is enhanced by the way each CD seeks to replicate the increasing intensity of a night in a Salsa club.
As I say I'm no expert on this type of music but have really enjoyed listening to this compilation.
