The Forgotten Minority
At last - a whole book daring to address the latest investigations into ADHD in girls! This book was a revelation. Superbly written it explains the latest findings regarding ADHD symptoms in girls and provides a couple of self-assessment questionaires. After my daughter filled one out, I found I could understand her behaviour so much better and was prompted to seek a professional evaluation. After 7 years of getting nowhere because she is not disruptive at school, someone is finally listening. I recommend parents, teachers and health professionals to read this book and be enlightened!

Practical and useful
One of the few existing books about girls with this disorder, most of which are by the same authors. The book contains, in a succinct but exhaustive way, most of the issues related to the disorder in feminine population, especially during childhood and adolescence: what’s different about the disorder in girls; biologic factors that could explain part of these differences; specific challenges for girls with AD/HD; comorbid disorders; educational issues to consider, recommendations about treatment approaches... all that, in a plain, accessible language; and illustrated with a wide range of examples; which helps not only the non-qualified reader (this book is not specifically written for professionals), but also the qualified, professional reader, who don’t have a wide direct contact with this kind of children but who wants to understand the practical dimension of the issue. All in all, the reading of the book by any person in contact with girls (parents, teachers, psychologists…) would help to identify a problem that usually remains unnoticed; and, nevertheless, has important consequences for the girl who suffers from it.

Understanding Girls With AD/HD
Well written, eye-opener of a book! A must for all parents,teachers and health professionals dealing with girls they suspect may suffer with AD/HD. This book follows the child from pre-school, elementary and middle school and then on to high school, highlighting the symptoms displayed by girls that all too often go unnoticed in a society that is only educated to recognise AD/HD in boys. It addresses the effect of puberty on our AD/HD girls and explains why gifted youngsters are particularly hard to diagnose. The book is peppered with the experiences of both women and girls, looks at the most common co-morbids exhibited and deals with behavioural therapy and medication.The self-inquiry questionnaires are extremely useful, giving insight into the life of a girl with AD/HD. I suspected my daughter had AD/HD when she was 4, but as she was so quiet at school and maintained good grades, no one believed me. Now at age 11, I am at last being taken seriously and we are about to launch into a full evaluation. After reading this book you'll wonder why we ever thought that AD/HD was a male-dominated disorder and you'll be calling for DSM-IV to be amended!!
