Instead of assembling a notebook from many minor parts the MacBook was reinvented from just one: the solid-aluminum unibody enclosure. Now the MacBook is thinner lighter and even more stunning. But its not all beauty. Because of the unibody this MacBook is also durable. It was designed to take on your world. So slip it into your backpack or briefcase and pull it out wherever you go - its impressive in any setting.------The MacBook uses a graphics processor that economizes space in a whole new way. A traditional computer logic board contains multiple components: the CPU two chips that control communication throughout the computer and the graphics processor. The logic board in the MacBook contains only two components: The CPU and a graphics processor with all of the core logic built into a single chip.------The beautifully seamless remarkably thin design isnt the only gleaming quality of the LED-backlit display. Open your MacBook and youre instantly greeted by glorious full screen brightness. The aluminum enclosure is perfectly integrated with a glass overlay that stretches to the edge of the notebook providing a completely unobstructed picture. Anything you view including the glossy widescreen display itself is a spectacular experience. The LED-backlit display is more power efficient. And its mercury- and arsenic-free so its greener than ever.

Manufacturer's Description
The New MacBook - Beautifully engineered, inside and out
From the stunning aluminium unibody to the powerful graphics architecture, the new MacBook makes progress a beautiful thing. Instead of assembling a notebook from many minor parts, the new MacBook was reinvented from just one: the new, solid-aluminium unibody enclosure. It gets full credit for making MacBook thinner, lighter, and even more stunning. But its not all beauty. Because of the unibody, this MacBook is more durable than ever. It was designed to take on your world. So slip it into your backpack or briefcase and pull it out wherever you go its impressive in any setting.
Even the keyboard is advanced
The MacBook keyboard is solid, responsive, and comfortable. Just put your fingers on the crisp keys and youll feel pure typing bliss. An illuminated keyboard, a popular feature of MacBook Pro and MacBook Air,now comes standard on the 2.4GHz MacBook model. So when youre in low-light settings such as airports or lecture halls, you can always see what youre typing. Its a luminous feature for anyone on the go.
The amazing new trackpad doubles as a button just press down anywhere and consider it clicked. No separate button means theres 39 percent more room for your fingers to move on the silky glass surface. Now that Multi-Touch gestures have come to MacBook, all the function is in your fingers. Use two fingers to scroll up and down a page. Pinch to zoom in and out. Swipe with three fingers to flip through your photo libraries and rotate an image with your fingertips. Using the new four-finger swipe gesture, swipe up or down to access Exposé modes and left or right to switch between open applications. If youre coming from a right-click world, you can even configure a right click area to access shortcut menus. The more you use the Multi-Touch trackpad, the more youll wonder what you ever did without it.

Converted - Totally!!
I first noticed this Mac back in October, and thought that aesthetically it was a beautifully engineered machine, but have never bought in to the Apple hype, as a) it's never appealed, and b) a Computer is a computer is a computer, right?
WRONG!
Now I know Vista has come in for a lot of criticism, but I started using it the day it launched nearly 2 years ago, and have NEVER had a problem with it. What I have continually had a problem with, is that new PC's/Laptops start off great, and after a month or two, grind to a halt. No amount of debugging/defragging etc etc ever seems to cure them, and having purchased a HP Pavilion less than a year ago only for the same problem to reoccur, I decided that enough was enough, and I was going to look at Apple more seriously.
So in December 2008, I became the proud owner of this shiny new Macbook.
Having not used a Macintosh since 1984, I was a complete virgin, but I powered it up and guess what - a few simple clicks, and it just worked. I say worked, it still does - faultlessly! I have yet to have to contact Apple Support, as the OS is a cinch to adapt to - if you can use Vista, you'll be up and running with this in less than a week. Gone are the days of watching an App crash/hang - this simply works - end of!
There are a couple of foibles that I will forgive it, but on the whole, it does exactly what it says on the tin, outperforms ANY Windows PC I have ever owned, whilst looking gorgeous on my desk at the same time.
If you are a Windows fan, as I was, you always have the ability of running XP/Vista on this machine if you so desire - this I have to say was reassuring when I made the initial purchase. However, having now got used to running with Leopard, the chances of me even contemplating installing Windows is slim to none.
To summarise, blistering performance, outstanding Battery life, and a machine that when you open the lid, just does what it's supposed to. Buy it - you won't regret it!!
Best Laptop since sliced bread
Hi guys
It's a very well made piece of kid. No objection. It feels sturdy and stong, then again, with the whole nw process it goes through to be manufactured, who would think it wouldn't be?
I want to just comment on how when i orderd mine, i had a sony viao (13") and i hated how..... small it was. It was TRYING too much, the scren didn't look 13" - it looked 10, they keys were small, the trackpad was small, it was trying to hard to be portable.
I didn't quite know what to expect opening this but much to my suprise, i loved it's size (strange that eh?) t's smooth top and 'glistening' apple logo on the top. It looked 10/10.
I picked it out of it's box, and it had a little weight to it, not noticeable mind, but heavier than the plastic laptops i've been using.
took it out of the plastic and had a fiddle with all the novelty bits, the magnetic power adapter, ad the battery light indicator located next to the kensington lock slot.
I opened it up, and everything just hit me in the face as imaculate. The keys were perfectly spaced, the trackpad was suprisingly large (a good thing!) the screen was perfectly sized.
Switched it on, and the scren threw gorgeous colours in my face, the intro. vid looked amazing.
At this point i noticed the backlit keyboard come on, it was a dimly lit room a tthe time, and it just added to the sheer beauty.
The trackpad is not short of amazing. I find myself using the exposé four fingure gesture nearly every 20 seconds, the accuracy and smoothness of which the gestures work (iphoto, itunes, safari, exposé) is truely amazing.
By the way, the whole trackpad being a button, is REALLY easy to get used to, I picked it up in 5-10 minutes
As a new mac user, i was genuinly worried with how Leopard (Macs operating system) was going to treat me. Turns out it treats me better than vista does. I've not used linux, so i can't comment, but judging by friends, i'd say linux isn't the best of all 3.
Bootcamp is welcome, i wont be using it mind, but having leopard and windows would be good news to many folk.
The new graphics chip performs extremely well, i have...near enough a few hunfred photos on my macbook, and they're all loaded straight when i get into iphoto.
No games as of yet, but i'll only want to put football manager 2009 on it to satisfy my gaming needs.
There's some great apps that you can get from the apple webite, i managed to get hundreds of thin strands of light moving all together as a screensaver, and an app that makes your screensaver your background.
Just to sum it up....
If you've got the money, go for this, hands down. The base macbook pro only has a slight advantage over this in terms of what it can do. It looks and feels the part + if you want windows on it, it's a very easy process
The best computer you can buy for your money
If you ever needed a final excuse to switch from PCs to Macs, this is it.
The unibody MacBook has an aluminium enclosure milled from a single slab of metal to give it added strength, sturdiness, low weight and a very thin profile. It is a very clever piece of design and has an integrity found in no other machine made by any other manufacturer. Although it looks gorgeous, the design is all about functionality not aesthetics, from the magnetic latch, hidden speakers that bounce sound off the screen, ergonomics of the keyboard and trackpad, to the overall fit and finish, which are flawless. There is no doubt that the people at Apple have really put their hearts and minds into developing this computer. It is mind-blowingly full of attention to detail.
When it comes to specification, the 2.4 Ghz model is probably a safer bet than the 2.0 Ghz one, because it has the backlit keyboard and its faster processor will take longer to become outdated. In terms of raw performance, this machine is as good as the previous MacBook Pro, which makes it great value. In short, this is a computer that will last for years.
Pros
- Ultra Sleek form factor
- Robust and durable construction
- Unlikely to become outdated quickly
- Excellent on-board graphics (very good for playing DVDs and games)
- Mac OSX: infinitely better than Windows Vista
- Superb new trackpad
- Improved backlit keyboard
- LED screen much better than previous MacBook screen
- Inbuilt DVD player
- Runs Windows (if you must)
Cons
- Highly reflective glossy screen is a major issue for some people (for me it is no problem)
- There are less expensive PCs available (but they won't last as long)
- The omission of a Firewire port is a major issue for some people using video / camera equipment (buy an adapter or get the MacBook Pro)
- If you leave it lying around, someone will surely steal it
(Some reviews complain that screen quality is inferior to that of the 15.4" MacBook Pro and 13" MacBook Air. It is marginally inferior but you probably wouldn't have noticed unless I told you. Ignore any negative comments about screen quality, the new MacBook's screen is a quantum leap above the old machine's. )
In short, I don't think I have ever been able to recommend any other piece of technology so wholeheartedly. This really is a stunning product. You really won't regret buying one. As a die-hard PC user for the last 20 years, I never thought I'd say that about a Mac. But it is the truth.
