Teaching English as a Foreign Language using Technology
Much needed research and recommendation in use of technology for teaching - especially language teaching - specifically ESL or EFL
Get Wired!
I've worked with technology in ELT for quite a few years now, mostly in Asia - so I'm lucky enough to usually be working in places which have good facilities and fast connections. So this book was a great find for me - packed full of good ideas around most modern technologies, it has a practical and pragmatic approach to their application in the classroom.
I knew a fair bit about some of the areas covered (it covers an awful lot in a concise and helpful manner) but I've also learnt a lot about some I hadn't had time to investigate and it's even persuaded me to have a look at Second Life, which is weird and really exciting.
This book would work for all sorts of teachers - from newly-qualified ones with an interest in technology, to more experienced ones just looking to expand their repertoire. The addition of a CD with some interviews from teachers actually using the technologies - as well as walkthroughs of common applications is a real bonus.
Highly recommended!!!
You can't do without it!
Well, I'm doing Master in English Teaching here in Brazil and one of the modules for the course is on the application of informatics in the classroom, so I bought this book expecting to learn a lot more and brush up my technology skills. And I wasn't let down by it, this book has so much in it's difficult to know where to start, but when you sit down and start to take in all of it you find out that it's easy to use technologies in the class. The authors have brushed up my confidence for using computers in class and my students are happy now I don't live in the 20th century anymore! Now we start using blogs together in class and everyone is publishing their writings. Thank you for a wonderful book!
