Customer Reviews
A fair reference piece for the total novice.
This is the first book I have found which gives some basic information on keeping and breeding doves in the garden. ie in a wallcote and polecote. However, it shows rather a lot of pictures of old dovecotes, particularly in France, which really the beginner doesn't need or perhaps want to know so much about. More reference to basic housing and in particular details of polecotes, wallcotes, dimensions required etc, would be of more use. The polecotes shown which can be purchased may be too expensive for the beginner, so more details of how to build one would be beneficial. Overall though, I found the book interesting, and a good reference guide.
Good Basic Book
As a complete novice I found this book good but not very thorough. I would have preferred less on the history of dove cotes and more on the practical aspects. Little is written about how much to feed your birds. However; it was good value, helpful and as far as books on the subject go, one of very few.
A Sound Start
This book would be interesting introduction for the reader who knows nothing or very little about pigeons, doves and dovecotes. There is an excellent guide to the different types of pigeons and a thorough (perhaps even excessive) study of dovecotes and there history. Overall well worth the money.
