Editorial Reviews
The Observer, (Dave Gelly), May 24, 2009
There isn't another band in existence with the same broad, undogmatic, sunny approach to jazz - more's the pity.
CD Description
The final album by Humphrey Lyttelton, who died in April 2008, features Tony Fisher on trumpet, with guests Karen Sharp and Louise Parker.
The "Cornucopia" series of CDs - this is the third - was a project very dear to Humph's heart. He oversaw all the tracks on the album, directing, suggesting and fine tuning the dynamics and solo orders. He always said that the band he had at any particular moment in his life was his favourite, but there's reason to believe that this one really was. He loved it and devoted more of his time to it than to anything else that filled an extraordinarily busy life.
Humph can be heard on two of the tracks and his 'count-ins' on some of the others have been kept. He had very high standards in his recordings, which the band as a collective effort have been determined to maintain. Our thanks must go to Tony Fisher who had the difficult job of completing the tracks on which Humph had not been recorded. We think Humph would have been delighted with his contribution. We all miss him, and his band hope to continue in his tradition, playing his compositions and keeping his music alive. Humph would have been proud of this album.
Personnel:
Humphrey Lyttelton - (trumpet; track 4, clarinet; track 9), Tony Fisher - (trumpet), Ray Wordsworth - (trombone), Jimmy Hastings - (clarinet, alto and soprano saxophones), Jo Fooks - (tenor and soprano saxophones), Robert Fowler - (tenor and baritone saxophones, clarinet), Karen Sharp - (tenor and baritone saxophones), Ted Beament - (piano), John Rees-Jones - (bass), Adrian Macintosh - (drums)

The Best Yet.
We have all three Cornucopia's. All excellent. This one was unexpected as dear Humph died over a year ago only months after we saw him in one of his last shows in Norfolk.
