Gets you learning as you play5
Having received this little book and CD, I was at first somewhat disappointed. Three sides of a page on holding the chromatic harmonica, a diagram of what notes the holes represent and methods of how to get the single notes and vibrato - all of which could just about fit on a side of A4 - and then straight into the 26 tunes and three scales. As I looked at it I thought, "Yup, they weren't kidding when they said basic". But great things do often come in small packages and this is no exception. What Phil Duncan has cunningly achieved has been to supply the person who doesn't read music with the perfect tool to get started with his Chromatic. If you are like me, and can't get the timing for a given song, then, unless you know the tune in the first place, you can't attempt to play the song. Well, here is just what you and I are looking for: a collection of interesting songs on a CD with a simple musical accompaniment. Turn your balance control to one extreme and you just get the chromatic coming out of the one speaker; turn it to the other extreme and you just get the accompaniment through the other speaker. Each song on the CD is represented in the small booklet with the musical notation and harmonica tablature (up and down arrows for blow and draw, respectively) - also what look like guitar chords (?). You won't waste your money on this one. There are even a couple of boogey woogey numbers thrown in which sound quite special.

A great little book!!4
This book for the price it is at should be snapped up. I have a chromonica and to be honest don't play it much as i'm learning the diatonic at the minute. I don't have many chromatic guides or music so bought this as it seemed good value and had a good review.
Overall a very good book!
It is not really in my eyes a complete novice book, and there is not much in the way of tuition ( being only a couple of pages ), however it's enough to get by and there are some great songs. Of which there are around twenty including " Darabande " which is on the film " A Clockwork Orange " plus the " Maori Farewell song " which I have been wanting to hear for some time. With the CD this was possible and it even has a Russian jig/folk song thrown in too!
It's a good little collection of songs and it's less than A4 in size so very portable!
All in all a very worthwhile purchase.

Simple concept - well executed.4
Not very much instruction but gets straight into some simple tunes with a comprehensive CD included. Just about right for raw beginners but it really is only a quick start. Much more approachable for the musically timid than many other tutorials. More insteresting to follow than some instructional material that relies heavily on constant practice of scales and modes you'll never use.

Not really very much is covered but then not very much is removed from your wallet.

Pretty good fun really. (No animals were hurt during the making of this review - the cat got a bit of a scare at the start of the first song though.)
